Registration for the 2012 Viper North Americans is now open -- http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=640

This promises to be the largest Viper NAs to date -- given that we have 41 boats signed up for Charleston and over 50 Vipers within a 4-hour drive of Charleston, and Texans, Californians, Australians, Bermudians and others aiming to attend, a 50 boat fleet seems to be within reach, and maybe if we get enough momentum early, we could have even more.  Sign up early and often.  If you can only make one regatta this year, make it the NAs.

Sept. 6-9, Eastern YC, Marblehead, MA

Housing and charters available on a first-come, first-serve basis, but only for those who register.

7 entries already.  First late fee deadline kicks in May 31.  Let's try to get to 30 entries by the end of April.

Let's shoot for 15 boats signed up within first 24 hours of opening.

Who's going to be the first from the West Coast?

Now if we can get an Aussie, a Bermudan, Nederlands, and someone from the Republic of Texas, can we call it our first worlds?

Edit: DONE Fifteen boats signed up in first 14 hours. The fifteenth boat was Jeff Lee from Turks and Caicos!
Next target. Twenty by the end of the week.

Now up to 24 -- 1 boat per hour.  So...by this weekend we should have a 100-boat fleet for North Americans!  Why not.

We have our first Texan, our first Californian, and a really strong Canadian turnout.  As an added bonus, every registered boat has a name.  You don't need to know who your crew are yet, or where you're staying -- all you need is a clear calendar and good intentions.  Plenty of time to work out the details.

Are we all doing something wrong? There is only one "kick ass viper 640" registered... how do I get that upgrade?

Had a great meeting with Andy McCormack (the Farr 40 guy). He's building a 4 boat hauler for the Melges 20 fleet. The Melges 20 NA's are in SF Bay this summer and they're trucking boats from all over the USA and shipping boats in from Italy for this. (It's not too late to join the Vipers at the SF Noods Sept 23/24 this year :-))

He wants to build the trailer so that he can haul Vipers too. He believes he can haul 5 Vipers on the same rig and one on top the truck, making for a 6 boat haul. Should keep the price WAY down! With any luck at all, the test run will be WIRW and we hope to convice some more West coast boats to head East for the NA's.

Let's work HARD at getting boats from EVERYWHERE to attend the NA's.

Great news. If the truck can swing by AZ, I know of at least one boat that would hop aboard for a ride to Marblehead....or maybe go from WIRW

Is there an estimate on trailer construction cost?  I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in hearing how this plays out and what the cost would be in various configurations (2 boat trailer, 3 boat trailer, 4 boat trailer, mega 6 boat trailer).

And meanwhile in other news, NA registration is not going so quickly elsewhere.

Those guys will figure it out.  In the meantime, our registration has stalled after a major initial push.  If you know you're going to be there, just sign up before you forget, esp. so that you can get the early discount on registration before May 31.  If you know you're not going to be sailing because of a conflict that weekend, please let Dan Tucker, Daan Goedkoop or me know -- there may be some Australians willing to ship over some wine and rum in exchange for a boat.  And if you're concerned that you'll be overmatched at a regatta titled "North American Championship," don't be.  Pretend the regatta is called "Viper Family Reunion and Jamboree" and use the week to check out rigging, pick people's brains about go-fast tips and just do some great sailing against fun people.
