"Championship Regatta" overstates things a bit, though the overall winner in the one design classes gets the local trophy that has been awarded for 80+ years to the men's one design champion, and gets into the Mallory Cup ladder program historically (if that is still happening).  It's a regatta where there will be Vipers, hosted by Indian Harbor YC, but this year, it will NOT be sailed behind the Greenwich Islands as it has been in past years - instead, the racecourse will be to the west in Long Island Sound, just to the east of Rye Playland.

Last year we had 11 Vipers, this year we have 6 signed up, another 5-6 who say they're signing up, and probably a few more if we get any sort of local push.  http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=900 - others are welcome to come on over.  There will be a tow (or if conditions are good, a sail) to/from Larchmont each day, while the Greenwich boats sail out and maybe the Stamford boats sail/tow over.

That was the original plan for Race Week, but it was nixed at the 23rd hour at the request of several parties, some on the organizing end, some on the competitor end.  In any event, if the 70s show up for this one, they'll be with us -- I am told it is the "sportboat circle".  We'll have a lot more runway, a lot less local knowledge, and many fewer hidden rocks.  It should be great.

Also, now up to 9 boats, with at least 5 others I know of who plan to be there but who haven't signed up yet, and I haven't surveyed the entire group.  This could easily turn into another 18-20 boat WLIS Viper Party.

What did folks think of the 3 minute start sequence?

Richard West

I thought it worked very well.  With decent breeze most of the time, boats had plenty of time to set up during the sequence.
