awesome sailing today--10-15 under cloudless skies & enough big shifts & puffs to make everyone look smart sometimes.  On the other hand--when things go a bit wonky, do we do 720s or 360s?  We opted for twice around but someone hailed that we only needed one--is that a class rule? News to me.   See you on the water tomorrow--team Grendel

Class rule: Twice for infractions at a mark and one otherwise.

More later.
In my elderly and befuddled state I confess that is news to me as well. Which class rule?

Hmm... interesting.  I'm directly blind-quoting someone from earlier in the weekend.   Gotta do that fact checking...!

So in fact not a rule and its thus 2 circles everywhere except when a regatta's rules say otherwise.

Maybe it's an MRA rule?  (Marblehead)

East Coast: Viper #56;  West Coast: Viper #24 (available for charter)

Posting results from this weekend since Sailing World does not seem to archive them on the site from past years, so at least we'll have a record of Steinberg's big win down the line.  Conditions were great (I am told it is always like that in Marblehead?), 9 races on our course, variety of conditions including planing on two of the three days, Viper social events, etc.  Neither of the top two boats won a race.   Patched Up needs more patching unfortunately but that's another story -- they were sailing extremely well until that spreader failed...

AFAIK, 720 for most fouls, 360 for hitting a mark.

was not the spreader that failed.  Upper shroud attachment point on the mast. rivet must of loosened enough to shift plate bearing point. spreader broke as a result of shroud giving way

Paul (or others), are there any take home maintenance tips for the rest of us on that one on what we need to be inspecting for on a semi-regular basis?
