St Pete has an invitational regatta in January and they would love to include Vipers if we could get enough boats there.

The SPYC web site shows the 2009 dates as 1/9 -1/10.  It also shows the St Pete NOOD as 2/12 - 2/15

Let's include the Carolinas Keelboat One Design (CKOD) as a candidate.

It's on Lake Norman, Nov 8-9 - an existing regatta that is designated as Nationals (I understand) by other sportsboats. Sounds like it is usually well attended.

My boat will be heading down to St Pete in Nov., so I'd be in for the Jan. invitational regatta.

The two CKOD regattas, one in Nov. and the other in March both draw a big U-20 fleet and would be a tremendously shorter drive for the northeast-based boats.  I plan on doing both if I can.

As for St Pete, Sally and I have had a great time there the last two NOODs, but I don't know if we can make two trips, so it might be either/or the Jan Invitational or the Feb NOOD.  I'm willing to do either, but I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the big-crowd scene and the NOOD sending us motor-less Vipers 5 miles out in the bay, so I might like to give the Invitational a try.  Still, what the fleet wants rules!

i'd like to do both Jan and feb so that i can leave the boat in one spot.
I would also really like to see if we could get an event on Biscayne Bay....I mean stunning place to sail.

Viper 19 already has child care arrangements and hotel reservations for the NOOD, so we're in.  Who else is coming?

Two trips is a bit more feasible if we can get boat parking, so maybe January is play for us too.

I am still very interested in doing the ST Pete January Multi Class event, and then leaving the boat there for the NOOD in February. ST Pete has offered to arrange storage.

The attraction of the January event is that it is a bit like the HPDO, a mix of high performance dinghies and fast keel boats. Informal atomosphere, emphasis on fun and fast, inexpensive, and good classes to hang out with.

Oh, and some will have heard we are working hard on a Biscayne Bay fleet, so look for something with Blue water on the 2010 schedule!

I need to post a provisional "Winter Schedule" on the website.

This is so that existing and prospective Viperers have something to look at.  I want to reflect the wishes of the group so please email me with suggestions and amendments and I will happily make them.

Looking through my emails and reading the threads on the forum, this is the consensus that I seem to read:-

MAJOR REGATTAS

St Pete NOOD  February , CRW, April.

OTHER REGATTAS

Lake Norman in November and March. Coral Reef in March. ST Pete Multiclass in January. Various in Texas which I will try and get on the website.  Any others??
