Hi Everyone,
I noticed that there wasn't a link here on the forum, but our friends in the north have opened registration for the 3rd annual Viper only regatta on Lake Champlain. This really is a must-do event! Hopefully Jason will fill in with more, here's the link for registration:
http://lcyc.info/racing/viper_640
Already 7 boats registered! There were 16 last year, can we top that?
This is a 2 day, Viper only event. Last year they ran 10 races over 2 days in excellent conditions. Here's the pics to prove it!
Entry fee includes 2 breakfasts and a dinner!
We'll be at a wedding that weekend this year but it's a great event at a spectacular venue for those who have never made the trip. Top notch hospitality and amazing scenery.
Thanks Cole, Darren, and Peter!
We are now up to eleven registrants!

Cheers,
Jason
Correction...12!
Awesome!
Just to add to the excitement for the weekend, the official Viper fleet traveling band, "The Space Between" will be playing a gig on Friday night in Burlington. Their lead singer/guitarist, Amy Mantis, will then be crewing for us on Saturday/Sunday... More details to follow...
For some bad news, my favorite townie bar in Shelburne, The Old Shed, has closed. :(
We'll have to pick another place for Saturday night!
Would anyone be willing to write something up for the next Snake Bytes? I think it would be cool to promote the event from the view of a traveling Viper.
BTW, registered boats should be getting emails soon to help arrange housing.
If anyone has permanent bow numbers, please let us know. I am going to use this event to put a permanent 18 on my bow, because I lose paint with every sticker removal.
Cheers!
13 boats thanks to Dave and Moise on Mo' Grins! Two-time champ back to defend!
Here are the photos from Gerry Davis on our photo boat and Dale Hyerstay on the RC boat from 2015:

Gerry and Dale will both be taking photos again this year!
Up to 14 now! Let's beat last year's count of 16!
Thanks
Hi folks!
I will be providing entertainment for you all Friday night over at Radio Bean in Burlington. As Cole mentioned, my band, the Space Between, is the official Viper Fleet traveling band. And I couldn't be happier about that!
You can scope us out on Facebook:www.facebook.com/spacebetweenmusic
And here is the event page for the show:https://www.facebook.com/events/1437796949580870/
I'll be playing from 7PM to 8PM on Friday, 9/23. If you like Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, or the Rolling Stones, then there is a strong chance you will like the songs I sing and write.
Think of it as the welcome party ;)
Hope to see you there!
Thanks Amy!
I wanted to let people know that we have some extra Viper crew up here if anyone needs help filling their boat. Just let me know!
Up to 15, soon to be 16 with another Sarnia boat!
Thanks for all the Canadian love!
Thanks to Brian from Sarnia for taking us to 16!
We are still placing racers with free housing!
Your entry fee goes to food and modest prizes, like Heady Topper in a monogrammed soft cooler. All staff are dedicated volunteers who believe in square courses and good fleet communication.
We also have photographers taking some amazing photos during the regatta. Good photos help me make it through the Vermont winters, waiting for the lake to thaw.
Local fleet members will also be handing out beers (external to the budget), because that is how we do it in the Viper 640 class.
I have several available crew, including one just on Sunday, if that helps.

17 now!
Waiting for a Mudhead to take us to 18
Andy...
Does anyone want to store their boat in VT to pickup later for HPDO?
We might be able to store a few boats with members.
We hit 18! Cole says the Rowlinsons will be next? Let's see it?
Let's hit 20!

Is there still a nice cushy place for us to stay?! --Matt CAN 70
Of course! Create an account if you don't have one already.
I will approve new accounts very quickly.
Login. Register.
We will find you housing!
I think Viper 252 is likely to make the trip as well based on conversations earlier today.
Alright! This is looking like a 20 boat regatta :)
Also, looks like Andy is winning the battle of the Bennetts right now--6 of us registered!
Black Sheep is now 194.
Now at 19 with the Rowlinsons!
Cheers
We have some crew available if anyone needs an extra! Let me know.
The weather is looking good! For those of you who can't do the conversion in your head, that's 8-11 knots.
Friendly reminder! I'll be grooving at Radio Bean at 7PM on Friday. Giddy up!
Also, Jason, as per our discussion at Dave's house, if you want me to play Saturday at the club, let me know. I can bring my gear. Lemme know! Email is likely best -

Hi Amy,
We would be happy to have you play!
BTW, is there anyone coming up from Boston with an empty trailer hitch? My boat is at Whitecap for repairs, and I'm not sure how close to the event it will be ready.
Thanks
Can't wait for this weekend!
Friday night, the Marblehead fleet will be in downtown Burlington from 7pm onwards-- Amy's going to be putting on a live show in honor of the Viper 640 Class Association at Radio Bean:
https://www.facebook.com/events/1437796949580870/
Looking forward to seeing you guys there at 7, if you can make it!
Viper class sail registration stickers ------
Steve Chapman and I will have some if you need them. All sails out on the water have to be registered. If you need them, please pay in advance on the Class site - Technical - Sail Registration and pay via PayPal. Don't make us hunt you down! Proceeds help pay for all the great work Buttons does.
I'll have keel templates with me if you plan to do any fairing over the weekend ($25 each)
Dave
I'm trying both locally and on the forums to find a spinnaker trimmer (both days) for a 20th boat (Paul Zimmerman). Please let me or Paul know. It would be pretty cool to hit 20 for this event.
Thanks,
Jason
Great day! I am so tired, but happy. Five races, and then a two mile planing run back to the club.
Results day one: http://lcyc.info/files/LC%20Viper%20Regatta%202016.html
There was pulled pork and a couple of salads, a bunch of local beer from the local fleet (quite the selection!), plus some rum and tonic.
Then someone started a fire in the fireplace and Amy Mantis gave a great musical performance. This will be the new tradition!
Back at it tomorrow. Thanks to everyone on the race crew, and thanks to the traveling sailors for coming to Vermont!
Cheers,
Jason
Fantastic job yet again by the LCYC team led by the Hyerstay clan. Thanks for having us all.
Absolutely fantastic regatta. So well run, incredible venue, good competition.. a MUST attend for Viper Sailors.
Thank you to all of the of the volunteers and members at LCYC!
We put together a little collage of activity from Day 1 on our new Sheep. Hopefully you catch a glimpse of your boat or at least see yourself in the video of Amy singing
https://youtu.be/pJ7nh9B-KMo
Plus one from team Grendel on comments by Dave Nickerson and Steve Gilbert! What a great regatta; thanks to LCYC, the on the water team, the cooks, and everyone involved!
I can't believe how great this regatta is--it's gotten better each year! WOW--19 boats out on the line over the two days in great conditions! The hospitality is second to none up at LCYC! I still am having a hard time focusing on work today.. :)
Great video Sheep!!
My secret motivation is to get more Viper 640 sailors to move to Vermont!
If you can't move here, please come for the next regatta in 2017!
