AYC (Austin Yacht Club) has changed the date of the Gov. cup (the final of our three series stops for 2010).  The new date is Sept 25th and 26th.  The prior date was in conflict with Texas / OU weekend - so the regatta gets moved, go figure.

We expect to have 8 - 10 boats on the line.   Weather that time of year is typically nice.  The Viper fleet has rented 3 or 4 cabins at AYC.  If you plan to attend, call and grab one before their all taken.

Keep up the good work in Texas. We're planning on adding Texas to our 2011 tour.

Texas Viper Owners;

Time to register for Gov. Cup in Austin TX!

Here?s the link;  http://www.austinyachtclub.org/govcup?cmd=new

List of registered boats (let?s get at least 6 or 7 vipers signed up ASAP like we did down in Houston, that made a big impression http://www.austinyachtclub.org/govcup?cmd=who

?   Make sure you check One Design under the class

This is going to be a fun event.  On my last count we have Felipe, Sheldon / Davis, Myself, Flunker, Joe, Roger, Drake and Eric confirmed.   Wild-cards are the Oklahoma boys, El Paso Bob, Juan M on a chartered boat and  Mr. X from north Texas if he can complete his purchased in time.

Solid 8, possible 12, probable 9.   (if this regatta was three weeks later we might very easily see 12 boats).  Participation doubled in 2009 and has again doubled in 2010!!!   20 boats on the line in 2011?

It?s going to be a fun event.  AYC has cabins on the grounds, at least 3 or 4 of those are reserved by Viper owners? so that will be party central.   The viper social will kick off around 4 or 5 in the rigging area.  The snake bar will be open, there may be a little grillin?..  So let us know when you plan on rolling into town and so we can have a cold drink ready and can get some hands on to help you rig.   I believe there?s a Friday evening Beer-can going on if you can get ready in time.. fun pursuit style racing.  Vipers will start around 6:45 I think?     The party will be moved to a cabin that evening ?

Saturday after racing the snake bar will re-open.  AYC has a dinner planned, I?m pretty sure we?ll partake.

If anyone needs directions, advice, a place to stay etc please reply all to this email.  Someone will either point you in the right direction or take care of you.

This is going to be an interesting regatta.  Travis is shifty and will make things interesting..  if Juan M grabs a charter it?ll elevate everyone?s game!

For the over-all standings;    The stig and screamer are tied @ 4.  Sea Monkey is within striking distance on the top spot.    If anyone finds an error in this, please let me know.  Remember, we?re scoring boats and not skippers (Felipe let me use his boat for the LYC event so Stig gets credit for the regatta)..   Getting boats on the line is king!

8 boat's signed up in 24 hours...  9th on it's way.  Great group!

As it stands, we are looking at a 9-boat fleet for this event.  Not bad... that's with zero out of state support.

North U is sponsoring Kattack race systems for the Viper fleet.

Great regatta, folks!  The Stig had an excellent time racing and partying with y'all.

9 boats on the line, and some VERY tight, competitive racing.  Who'd have thunk we could get there from ZERO vipers racing in Texas three years ago!?!?

Congrats to my fellow Peruvian Juan Mauri and crew for winning the regatta, and to Steve Flunker on Screamer for winning the TX 2010 Viper Circuit.

The Viper fleet of course also won the party, but that was never in doubt.  We set the bar pretty high on Saturday, starting at 11am.  During a long postponement waiting for wind, the SeaMonkey crew started things off by mixing bloody marys for the fleet.  Then the Peruvian contingent followed up by setting up the Viper Pisco Sour bar under the AYC clubhouse.  Every time the blender spun up, it was like a cattle call to sailors from all fleets, and a line for Pisco Sours would form @ the Viper bar.

Final tally: 5 bottles of Pisco, 2 pounds of sugar, 40 limes, 16 pounds of ice, yielding about 20 batches of Pisco Sours.  By the time the postponement ended sometime after 3pm, I think the Viper fleet was responsible for delivering some very "loose" sailors to the line in our own and  several other fleets.

I may need to have Pisco Sours before EVERY race.  Our boat sailed better on Saturday, half in the tank, than we did on Sunday, stone cold sober.  :-)

Salud!
Felipe.
