Title: Sarasota Winter Series 2019-2020
Post by: Peter Beardsley on July 29, 2019, 05:44:27 PM
Save the date...assuming the SSS website is accurate:

Sarasota 1: December 14-15, 2019
Sarasota 2: January 18-19, 2020
Sarasota 3: February 8-9, 2020

We will be there - some of the best racing we do all year, wouldn't want to miss it.  More teams should consider teaming up with other owners from their area to split an entry if you want to do an event or two but can't do all three.

Team Meow! will be back again for the whole winter circuit (Sarasota + Miami Bacardi)!  Once again the one and only RonJon from team Northern Honey Badger will be teaming up with us to make it happen!

I bought my December plane tickets today since the rates were really good from New York to Tampa.

Planning to be part of the full series and learn the 1,2,3s of Vipering. Whats the deal with boat storage between events, can we keep them at the Sarosota Sailing Squadron?

Yes, SSS offers storage (at a cost).  Most people do the storage option - having mast-up storage and being able to show up Saturday morning (for those of us who can't take off early from work on Friday) is wonderful.  SSS even moves all of the Vipers to the seawall at some point during the week so that you don't have to hunt for them in the boatyard.  Looking forward to meeting you there this winter.

SSS is my winter club, my boat is well taken care of from November-March.  It's generally cheaper than indoor storage in my neck of the woods but with the added benefit of sailing in an awesome fleet at an awesome venue 3x over the winter!

By chance I am going to be in Sarasota during the first event if there is a crew need for any boats.  Former owner of 165, walking around at 225, better crew then helmsmen.

Uh Oh......Breaking news.

They said it could never happen. Justin Scott and Jeff Jones in the same boat.

Separated by an unbridgeable language and cultural divide....this will be epic!

See you on December 14th.....we are looking for a lightweight third...helps if they can translate Texan into British English and vice versa.  Not for the thin skinned.

Justin, if you need a third in February i would jump at the opportunity. Currently weighing in at 165. I can usually translate in any situation, just make the boat fast is the answer

We are in an arm wrestling match with the VXs over who can have more boats register.  It's been back and forth for a few weeks now.  We are at 19 Vipers with at least 3 teams that I know of on the Viper end who have yet to register.  Make it happen, people.

I've booked a 5x10 storage climate controlled locker at 4515 S Tamiami Trlal. If anyone wants to join in on this and split the cost, let me know. Jonathan

Hi all,

Wadjet is in need of a 3rd crew.  We are currently sitting around 430 lbs, so 120 to 170 would be ideal, but beggars can't be choosers, so we will happily take on a 3rd at any weight.

Travis was talking to a 120 youth female about being available to crew.   We've had some luck picking up last minute locals before. Also....post this request on the facebook messenger thread

Hi Everyone........looking forward to seeing y'all this weekend for the final weekend of the winter series.  Sob! It seems too soon to be saying goodbye to all of our friends at SSS.

A couple of news flashes :

Miaow is sharpening her claws and has ditched Cole as driver and are training for the Women's NAS  .  Oh! by the way Mary and Eleni say that you have to get your boats signed up now for the Womens NAC in September. Registration is on yachtscoring.

Any boats planning on migrating to Miami in March, be aware that Geoff Ewenson has got a great connection for moving your boat  Ping Geoff or express interest here.

Who is in for Charleston after Miami?

It is definitely NOT too early to be thinking of stopping off at Annapolis on your way home for the Mid-Atlantic Championship in early May. It turns out that this event is not being held in the middle of the Atlantic at all but at the ever so friendly Eastport YC on May 2/3

And under the "Its a small world " category, it turns out that both Mike (our sponsor at the winter series) and I went to the same school in Northamptonshire England, in a town you couldn't find even if we gave you a map.
