Attached is a flyer for an inexpensive phone app ($1.99) that uploads race data realtime. If you dont have the app or do not want to take phone on the Viper then race data can be uploaded post-race from Velocitek or GPX-enabled GPS on the website.

I think it might be of interested for our regattas for both everyone racing and those that wish they were racing because it can be watched live or post-race.

Android version only right now ... Iphone/Ipad version should be available by end of April.

See what you think ...

Thank you .... the one you don't want to piss off.

great minds think alike. I was just reading the article on the home page about the Aussies and thought we should really start tracking the boats and putting them together with Kattack or similar device. be fun to see on windy days and when there are 20+ boats sailing. I also have an app called Motion-x gps designed by Phillip Kahn, (Pegasus Sailing). It has a tracking feature and you can email it to people. not sure how it all works but the technology is out there. it also works off of gps and doesn't need cell connection to track you.

Jeff Jones get on it for Houston this year. We need a post race drinking area entertainment.

Also fun in to view when there is a protest and can see when the other guy is lying through his teeth. (not accepted in protest room though right Brad?)

Shuck

I'm on it

But after several cocktails you and Vigrass are the only post racing entertainment we texans need.   Canadians, eh!

The app ($1.99) for the phone auto uploads as we are racing allowing people at home to watch almost realtime.

The other ($free) option is post-race you can upload data from gps devices ... i have tried speedpuck and pro-start ... and watch the race playback.

The developer wants input, suggestions and problems reported to him are appreciated.

I am willing to help anyone out while in miami (pre-and Bacardi) so we can get some boats tracked either prior to or after racing. I will bring a laptop so I can upload from GPS devices (bring your USB cable for device as i did not bring any ... I have the phone app)

Would be fun to give this a try so Justin can spend his day watching from the cold North.

Now that everyone has pulled themselves away from the rum tent and are back home from Miami Sailing Week ...

you can go to beentheresailedthat.com and upload your tracks. There is no fee associated with this and it would be great to see what everyone did.

Just select Track File Upload and go from there. There are already races created under Florida, Coral Reef Yacht Club for each day of racing.

We did tracking for 2008 Charleston Race Week (and made it available online) and for 2008 NAs, (and then showed it on a big screen each day after racing.)

Any boat that carried a velocitek or any kind of GPS on board, handed their device to Felipe Payet after racing with a sticky identifying your boat attached to the device. In the moring Felipe would hand out back our velociteks.

The tracking was a hoot. You could see the tactics unfold, and great laughter when after a crossing , a boat starts doing circles.

The tracks are still out there somewhere on You tube. CRW was particularly amusing. In one race the boats split on first tack. You can see a big rightie that appears to hand it to the boats that went right. Both sides tack. The boats on the right are wound up on the 20 degree lift and look bound to cross the boats from the left that are coming back on the headed tack. But this is a flood tide, with the fleet heading East againts the current. The boats that went North (left) are in shallow water and the lifted fleet is recrossing the river.....slowly and painfully the disaster on the right unfolded.  On the next start the tracking shows every boat going left!

Tracking is one of the better after racing entertainments of all time.
