Any chance of putting a regatta together somewhere that has water (not Lake Lanier... I think that we are +/- 17 feet down now) the weekend before Thanksgiving?  Both Charleston and Pensacola have been mentioned.

OSYC on Lake Sinclair is available to host a Viper event the weekend of Nov 22nd.  The lake is always full, the water is warm, and it's only 100 miles from Atlanta.  It's also close enough to Savannah to pull in a few folks from there.  Here's the article from the last Viper race there... http://viper640.org/index.php/News/2007-Lake-Sinclair-Open-Results-and-Photos.html  If there is any interest, speak up and let me know!

The Lake Sinclair idea sounds like the beat of all worlds!  I know that there is at least one in Pensacola (I'll see those guys this weeeknd). I'll see if thye are interested as well.   Sounds like equal distance for about everyone that would want to come.

Is reasonable lodging avail that is close?

The Comfort Suites and the Hampton Inn are the best choices.  Both are close to the club - about 3.5 miles.

Excellent!  What do we need to do get it started?

I will start by splitting this discussion off into a new topic instead of continuing to hijack David's CKOD thread...

Doug - please go ahead and poll the LLSC people and see who is interested.

I will contact the OSYC board to put the event on the club schedule, and will also poll the Savannah fleet.

Anyone else who might be interested in coming, reply here or send me an email.

Jay:

This is not confimred... but I would think a definite 3, possibly 4 from LLSC.

Thanks for working on this!

Bad news.  The boat did not ship on the 3rd or 10th as promised.  Right now I would doubt that either mine or Jeff Meyers will be here for the Sinclair Regatta.  I'm BUMMED!  That will take at least 2 out of the mix that I thought would come from LLSC.

I guess that the first oppertunity to race with you guys will have to be at the St Pete NOOD's.   I hope that you get enough interest and can proceed with this regatta at Sinclair.

Sorry!

Bummer indeed!

There is no minimum to have a race at OSYC (ok, it's better to have at least two boats), so if anyone wants to come down I will still be happy to host.

I can also offer up OSYC for a January '09 pre-NOOD tune up clinic and race - surely the boats will arrive by then, and since we have a coal-fired lake heater (aka, Ga Power Plant), it's a great venue for winter sailing.

My new boat was a few weeks late as well, but it has now arrived and I am all set to go sailing for the first time this weekend!  I little rigging adventure on Saturday morning and then #96 is getting wet.  I can't wait.

The St. Pete NOOD sounds like a great event, and I am looking into towing my boat from Dallas.  Some of the other Texas boats are also thinking about this event, so we may end up with a nice big fleet.

Cheers,
Eric

That sounds like a great idea for the Jan event.  It would be good to ahve a tune up regatta before going down there.

Would there be storage avail for those out of town boats that may want to come, then stage the boat there to pick it up in Feb for St Pete?

We postponed that until January.  Right now we have January 10-11 on the Viper Southeastern Circuit schedule.
