We are working to increase the number of one-design regattas for Vipers in the Ottawa area and Great Lakes Region.

We are now invited to participate in one of Canada's oldest one-design events, the National Capital Regatta.

Please make a space in your calendar for this event, it should be a good one.

It is hosted by Britannia Yacht Club, one of Canada's oldest sailing clubs (see http://byc.ca/about-byc).
There are excellent cranes and lots of room to store and drysail Vipers.
The regatta organisation is top class and the club house bar legendary!

This event is one week before CORK (Aug 16-18), so a great warm-up for the Great Lakes Championship.

Registration will open in the next week or so.

    National Capital Regatta

The first National Capital Regatta was held on July 26 and 27, 1957, and for more than half a century it has been one of the most popular and successful annual sailing events in Canada.

The aim of this Regatta is to bring together the novice sailor and the well-seasoned racer in an atmosphere of friendly competition and camaraderie. The site at the Britannia Yacht Club situated on Lac DeschĂȘnes in the Ottawa River serves as a beautiful backdrop for the regatta.

There have been many years when 15 or more classes competed. These classes have included everything from sailboards to large keelboats, i.e. Lasers (all kinds), Y-Flyers, 14' Internationals, 5o5s, Bytes, Lightnings, 420s, Cygnus, Albacores, Catamarans in various sizes, Sharks, Kirby 25s, etc.

The record for the maximum number of entries was set in 1975, when 231 boats competed in the N.C.R. The record for the largest fleet of any one class is held by the Lasers, with 106 entries one year. Competitors have come from the east and west coasts of Canada and everywhere in between, also New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Bermuda, Greece, and all over the United States.

During most Regattas there are three separate courses, with the possibility of as many as six classes on each course.

The 2014 edition of the National Capital Regatta, to be held August 9 and 10th, is part of Ontario Sailing Grand Prix series and will also serve as the Laser Fogh Gold Cup event #5
