Ok--now thinking of flights for crew--it would be really nice to see a NOR.

Hey Viperers. We have booked flights and hotel, and I am planning on driving down from Canada through the snow...

The storage at the Sailing Center is cheap. Come down for this event, leave the boat mast up for three weeks, come down for two more events in early March.

This Regatta is going ahead. There are going to be lots of Melges 20s there - we need to have some Vipers.

What happened to the Southern Circuit?

Hey Lee,

I dont know much about this one. I believe Dan Tucker and others are organizing.
I have volunteered to help out with #3 and #4 which is the week long event with a regatta at either end.  I would love to come down in Feb but I am very tied up with other issues at the moment. Hopefully 2013/14 will see me with more sailing time.

It seems that the Class cannot get organized on this Miami event.  I would like to suggest an alternative regatta to this one, one that already has a venue and pre-registered boats.

Mardi Gras Race New Orleans February 14-17.

Already has Five boats pre-registered.  The Viper Class has been to this event in the last couple of years.  Less than a days drive from a majority of the Texas boats, but quite a drive for the southern Floirdau boats.  A very good stop over point for those in Texas and West Coasters that may be thinking about Miami in March.

Would be really nice if we can get a class at least once a year in the Gulf Yachting Association, that also happens to be considereing a new baot for it's interclub racing program to repalce the Flying Scot in a few years (wink, wink).

It's doesn't appear like this regatta is going to happen.  i would like to echo Craig's statement as MGRW is a good alternative to this.  Come to MGRW and I'll buy a round!!

Hell a round...

I have Five bottles of rum (new, not used condition) to give away for out for the next five out of area entries.  Must pre-register and show up.  I also have a bottle of rum each for Robert and Nick for their initiative.

Conditions for Rum, Pre-register, pay entry, show up.  If you happen to damage yourself during the event the rum is still yours. ( I am not encouraging you to damage yourself, Drake, more that you already are)

Lee

i dont think putting your beer on craig's boat would be smart.   i still have flashbacks of craig... austin with james....  on a light blue hobie 33 on lake travis...  being brough back to our condo at key west on the back of some random dude's scooter carrying a 6-pack of zima .   seem to also remember something about camping in key west and chickens...?   Oh the humanity

no no, we can not risk a relapse

All,

Apologies for going off the grid for a bit.  The class (and more specifically, me) has neglected the winter series for a bit, which will not happen in future years.  We just had a conference call with some organizers and the Valentine's Cup WILL be happening in 2013.  Racing is Feb. 9-10 in Miami as previously discussed.  The entry fee will be $25 for teams who send their entry forms in electronically by the Friday before the event, $50 if you give your entry form to everyone at the Competitors' Meeting.  The NOR will be published in the next couple of days, storage will be at US Sailing Center Miami (storage contracts need to be completed in advance, go to http://www.usscmiami.org for details on that).  Any other questions about this event, send 'em over.

Great news.   CAN 70 will be there, with Mr. Lee Shuckerow in front pulling strings and telling us what to do. The rest of you get on down, or hope we leave you some rum to drink in March.

We are staying at Residence Inn <http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/miaco-residence-inn-miami-coconut-grove/> Hampton Inn nearby had nothing left for the 8th and 9th.  For Bacardi week, cheaper to get a condo or house for your whole crew than hotel rooms. It's Miami in winter, so availability seems tight and nothing is cheap. Anyone with local knowledge on here?

That's why I like the Mutiny.  Very close to everything.  2 Bedroom 2 bath suite with Kitchen living room and sleeper sofa.  Everyone has a place to sleep.  Cook your own Breakfast etc....  Short straw gets the sleeper sofa.  I actually have this booked for that weekend, I was gonna come down with the wife and hang out but if someone wants to buy it from me I could be talked out of it.  ;)

NOR and storage info is finally posted!

http://viper640.org/calendar/all-events/se/details/156-miami-winter--2-valentine-cup

What other Class could pull off a weekend of racing in Miami for a $25 entry fee? No, that's not a typo, the entry fee is only twenty five dollars!

Please hit the link and email the electronic form back to the folks listed in the NOR.

Entries are starting to come in, and I got verbal confirmation from Argo last night that they'd be there in February and for Bacardi Cup.  There are a number of other people who sound like they can crew if anyone is short in that department.

We have Carroll, Lotz, Gefter, Rowlinson, a Rondar event boat, likely Matt Sole, and a couple of others -- who else is in?

Celeritas US158 is looking for a crew to sail with us on Sunday of the Valentine cup event.  If you know of any recommendations please email me at [email protected].

I think Matt Sole is also looking for crew if there are people out there lurking who want to crew in the Miami events who don't want to bring their boats down.

Working scratch sheet for Valentine's Cup:
Phil Lotz
Malcolm Gefter
Matt/Mark Rowlinson
Patrick Daniel
Dan Tucker
Jason Carroll
Byron Lamotte/Andrew Weiss/Jonathan Asch
Victor Diaz-de-Leon

Would be great if we could get to 10.

Ravens 34 -31
Mumford and Sons won album of the year.
Southhampton beat Man' City 3 :1
Man' United crushed Everton (sorry dont remember the final score)
Chelsea beat Wigan 4:1

Leaves Man Utd with a comfortable lead over City and Chelsea. Southampton game was the best.

Results from Valentine's Cup attached.  A few boats didn't make it last minute, but at least a half dozen teams were able to enjoy some great racing in the sun and warmth.  We'll be looking to expand on this next year with better promotion and organization.
