Too bad the boat you are using is still in Austin being held captive........................................fear the Monkey!!!!!!!!!!!

Brad Boston

That's ok Drake, we found the bar last night and will be just fine....

Brad Boston

Big thanks out to HYC,Jeff Jones,Lynn's for getting us to come down here for the regatta. We had a blast...
Brad,lee,Eric.

Big fun this weekend.  19 boats registered for this regatta - that texas boats less one that is being upgraded (Othewise he would have been there).

Thank to everyone for showing up, it was a fantastic time.

Drake Borer

phenomenal regatta.  Great conditions, great competition, great friends.........maybe too much rum!

The monkey may not be feared too much, but we were there in the mix!!

Unfortunately, mother nature came through with a tough squall line this morning and spanked my monkey!!

Really sorry about that Drake, sounds like just a few minor scratches.

Jaun's mast is broken.  Several other vipers blow off their trailers.

Lesson learned - tie'em down boys.

Tim Carter

WOW!! MAJOR BUMMER  =(

The trailers are pretty light also, if the boat was strapped down, would the trailer stop this from happening??

I remember the Tornado Worlds @ Houston in '90 I think it was...  a hurricane was coming through, so everybody turned the boats upside down and tied them concrete parking bumpers.

Ultimately boats were still lifted and the concrete bumpers worked as swinging clubs through the boatyard, and did the major damage...

Aircraft style screw in the ground anchors should work well.
Dropping the rig also.

I always knew Drake and others can blow me away sailing but I did not expect them to take it this far.  Cirrus Skies (#96) - parked between two boats that flew - was saved by a 3" strap to the trailer just forward of the mast.  Newsreel and photos at local ABC news channel at http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=8359370

The boat cover made by sailmaker/Viper sailor John Bartlett also held without damage and may have helped deflect the wind.

I'm not sure what would have happened if the winds had been stronger or longer. According to the Harbor Master, the wind speed climbed quickly from near 0 to around 35 mph and sustained gusts for over 15 minutes.  Graphs for today's weather event at Houston Yacht Club today

No problem - we're glad that you made the boat look good and sail fast.  With your black sails, should I think about renaming the boat the "Black Pearl" - except without cannonball holes in the sails as in Pirates of the Caribbean? (See Cirrus Skies with Sea Monkey in Drake's photo above.)

And thank you and Jeff for not mentioning that - in addition to having my boat strapped down tight to survive winds - I am also the one who had my boat rigged so tight in 108 degree heat this summer that I warped the deck fiberglass.  Darn....

Jeff Jones

You mean you got what's left of my boat up to Sarnia.  Geeze, i'm willing to bet it was was shuck's wild driving that blew my tire and broke my trailer ;-)

Cant wait!!!!   BTW Brad, my 3rd had to bail.  Trying to drag monkey boy up with us, will know today if we need a 3rd.

Great regatta, great competition....the level of the fleet is definitely improving.  Thanks Brad, Lee, Eric for coming down and showing us Texans a thing or two about sailing these boats.  Hopefully the monkey will be feared more often.
