It's that time of year again -- less than two months until the HPDO (the High Performance Dinghy Open) at American YC in Rye, NY. The HPDO has become a well-loved Viper event, with 35 Vipers on the line in 2010 and 28 on the line in 2011. All the Heineken you can drink too. 9 Vipers signed up already without much in the way of a push -- at minimum, I'm expecting at least 5 more Vipers from Larchmont, plus the usual northeast gang. This is the final regatta in the Northeast Viper Championship Circuit for 2012 - hopefully everyone can make it. NOR and scratch sheet at http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=665
I've put Peter on the scent but thought I'd mention it here too. I'm on the look out for a boat to charter for HPDO. I'm bringing mine but the girlfriend is interested in joining in the fun. She currently owns and races a Kirby 25 but is a definate possibility to switch to a Viper, having come out with me a few times.
I am still running on my original set of Hydes so unfortunately I don't have an extra set of sails to lend her. So I'm actually on the hunt for a used set of sails we can rent/borrow (condition doesn't matter as long as they still push the boat) as well as a boat. We'll be driving down from Nova Scotia so we can pick up a boat from a reasonable sized area, same with the sails.
Ideas? Leads? Info? Thanks.
To confirm: by "switch to Viper", Luke means "would buy a Viper." If someone was willing to lend a boat without sails, I can lend a set of sails to the cause.
Hey Luke -
Start making your travel plans. If you're confirmed, I'm sure we can help line up a boat. Sounds like Peter has sails.
Entries are starting to come in nicely for the HPDO -- 13 signed up, another 7 that I know of who say they're coming, without even having done a full survey yet while at NAs. Sign up today: http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=665
Also, after September 1, there's a late entry fee of $40 --- sign up today!

Any pictures?
After all one is very fussy about who one lends one's boat to!

There ya go. Or was this not the sort of picture you were looking for? :)
Luke.
22 Vipers signed up -- likely to be 30+, get those entries in now that we're on the wrong side of NAs.
Well..... seeing how the RV broke down on the way home and is back in Salem getting a new transmission (thank you Ideal Transmission) and the boat is in a happy spot at Rondar/Whitecap (thanks guys) while the work is being done.... we might as well fly in from Florida, get the boat and RV and do HPDO.
Gotta a few questions for logisitcs.
1) Does American YC allow for camping at the event or for ovenite van parking for the event?
2) Can anybody pick the three of us up at Logan Friday morning and get us into Salem so w can get our RV and Boat and drive to Rye?
3) If AYC does not allow overniting, anyone know of a nearby place for us to stay the nite in the RV (20foot conversion van)?
Thanks
Craig and Deborah (Kip too)
Craig,
Sorry to hear about the transmission. I don't think AYC allows camping -- overnight van parking would otherwise be ok though. Email event chair Carina McCabe for details since it's her club --
[email protected]. Worst case scenario we can find you guys free housing at someone's house in the area, or maybe we can put the RV in their driveway for the regatta.
Logan pickup I defer to the Marblehead fleet, but hopefully someone can step up for that one -- it's a very worthy cause.
Hear hear....a very worthy cause.
Your misfortune is our good fortune. We look fwd to seeing you at HPDO. You have a place to stay in Greenwich if the RV doesnt stay at AYC.
My casa is your casa.
J
Thanks all. Looks like we are going to make this Happen
HPDO
HERE COME THE FLORIDIANS!!!
Craig,
There is a high likelihood that I can give you a ride from logan to salem midday on Friday.
email me barmmer at gmail dot com and we can work out logistics.
Brian, Thank you.
Looks like we are going to take the train from Boston to Salem, the train stop in Salem is right next to Ideal Transmission.
So yeah, living the dream, living the dream. Just like John and Steve in "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles".

Get ready for an Adventure Craig! I've taken the train(s) from Boston to Salem.....all I can say is "damn there's a lot of people in Boston!"
Craig, Consider taking the T to Wonderland and then getting a ride to salem.
Now up to 27 entries and I know of a 28th entry definitely coming. Can we hit 30? Need some more support from Newport/eastern CT to make this a no-brainer. New record for WLIS Vipers showing up in the same place at the same time.

The internet is working in newport. Sign up guys!
FYI, if anyone needs crew for next weekend, I still have a few very good ones available who would love to get out there -- athletic, good hikers, lots of racing experience. Don't let that be an excuse for not showing up. Entry # 29 will hit as soon as Paul Zimmerman signs up (he says he's coming and he has crew as of today) -- can we get to 30?
Jackpot is finally registered for the HPDO! This is always a great regatta.. See everyone there!
Awesome to see such a good turnout. It sucks I have to miss this one.
I could be available to sail with someone on saturday if anyone needs a hand
Perfect day at HPDO today.....

Meat? Are you planning on some kind of revenge that involves a carving knife?
Outstanding regatta by Jason, Cathy, Caeli and Chad. I understand that he had exactly the same crew that he had at the NAs. Good for Jason and good to see more and more ladies sailing in our fleet.
We also ought to thank you, Brad, for once again hosting a debrief. Every time that you share your insights like that I learn one more little thing. You keep hoisting the overall skill level of the fleet to a common level and it is realy starting to show. Thank You.
Just finnished hockey and had food on my mind...
