Looking for Labor Day plans? Come sail the first invitational Viper regatta in Eastern Connecticut. The guys in the Mystic/Stonington/Noank area have worked out the logistics for a unique event Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 based out of Noank, CT. Saturday will be a race with 80+ other boats (but a Viper one design start) around Fishers Island (a local racing highlight) and sponsored by FIYC. Dave Nickerson and Moise Solomon promise to share local knowledge and how to navigate the tricky currents.
Saturday night will take advantage of Fishers Island YC's legendary end-of-season party, followed by Viper one-design windward-leewards in Fishers Island Sound Sunday afternoon. No racing on Labor Day Monday, so either spend a day with the family at Mystic Seaport or the Aquarium, or the beach, or head back early and beat the traffic.
There are separate trophies for Saturday's racing (FIYC entry covers), and scores will be combined for Sunday racing somehow (no NOR yet, trophies maybe a pet lobster or a case of local Cottrell Brewing's Mystic Bridge IPA) - pretty informal, but a great new place to race Vipers and help support a local fleet.
Launching will be out of Ram Island YC in Noank with tows to the racecourse on Saturday coordinated by the local Viper fleet, followed by sail/tow back to RIYC Saturday afternoon, and then motorboat rides to the party on FI. Space at RIYC is very limited for this first-time event but we can fit a maximum of 10 visiting Vipers. First come, first served by registering online for the Saturday FIYC race at http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=1472 (check the one design box – a Viper class is already formed. Buy Sat party tix there too). FIYC has no involvement in our plans for Sunday – we'll run that separately, no formal registration.

I know of an available 110 lb crew if anyone wants to do this one or needs a person.
Two great days of distance (15 miles around Fishers Island) and tight short course racing and perfect conditions. Peter B is working on a write up and we're collecting photos. In the meantime here are results. Huge thanks to the visiting teams for making the drive.

This was such an awesome event guys--I hope it becomes a fixture on the Viper calendar! The local hospitality was sooo nice; Dave, Moise, and the rest of the RIYC crew really had everything thought out. It was great meeting everyone down in Noank, I'm looking forward to seeing you all at many more events down the road! Looking forward to seeing Peter's recap!

Some photos courtesy one of our teammate's parents from the race on Saturday -- most are of Ghost Panda unfortunately for everyone else but you get a flavor for what the weather and scenery were like. https://www.facebook.com/peterbeardsley/media_set?set=a.822859336171.1073741828.4002495&type=3
