Title: Canadian Nationals July 9-10
Post by: Steve Chapman on June 16, 2016, 12:02:59 PM
Online registration is open for The 2016 Viper 640 Canadian Championship in Kingston Ontario. Hope to see you there to sail in the fresh water capital. Hosted by the Kingston Yacht Club, just a short distance from the Canadian Olympic Regatta Kingston (CORK) facility in Portsmouth Harbour.

Well know for the fantastic sailing conditions, reliable thermal breeze, this year we will be welcomed by the warm embrace of the Kingston Yacht Club, a wonderful place to socialise after a great day's racing.

Black Sheep is registered.  Should be an all Gilbert boat that weekend!

I think we are somewhere around 10 boats right now, although not all have registered yet...

I know there are some of you who are sitting on the fence -
Long range weather forecast is good!
Thermal winds in Kingston are reliable.
Local craft beer is excellent...
Kingston Yacht Club is a wonderful place to hoist your pint of beer after sailing...

Salty types in the north-east should come and enjoy the fresh water sailing!!

Time to sign up...

What will it take to finally get some of the East Coast vipers to show the Great Lakes some love?  Come on guys and girls!  There's still time to make plans to visit one of the great hidden gems of North American sailing venues!

Personal emails.  It's a pretty limited group of people who populate the forums regularly.  I would definitely be there if I didn't have another commitment that weekend.

I'll send you a note, but for any event organizers out there, please know that it's pretty rare that you blast out an email, even one to a large group, even in Snake Bytes, even with Facebook posts to various pages, that you get a large turnout for a particular event.  A lot of this stuff takes personal appeals and sales pitches.  We have 30+ Vipers in WLIS and have trouble getting more than one third of them to travel 10 miles to another club down the Sound, let alone longer trips.

Looking forward to the awesome sailing and great hospitality from KYC this weekend. Darren's right first time since I think 2013 HPDO we had 3 Gilbert's sailing together on on Viper. One of the reasons we enjoy this class so much are opportunities like this.

Thank you to KYC, the Colburn family and all who attended. 2 great days of sailing, Kingston didn't disappoint for sure! Very tight fleet racing across the board, fun weekend.
