Oh I don't know matt, I was comfortably numb for most of the weekend.

Have one for all us po' viper sailors who had to settle for the big easy.  Btw, you seem to have a lot of disposable income for an unemployed dude ;-)

Have fun, stay out of jail or away from mechanical bulls.

Weather looks a little unsettled for later in the week. One thing I guarantee is that it will be considerably warmer than Mardis Gras regatta. Ha Ha!

Shame not to drink their beer.

Seriously, we have many friends sailing in both fleets and good to hang out with fellow sportboat afficianados.

So
Weds: EFG Cocktail party at tent
Thursday Viper dinner at Calamaris
Friday Melges party at Mr Moe's

I will rely on Matt and Dan to organize trips to Mangos afterwards. Please take Chapman with you!

ALERT.

US Sailing Center has confirmed a special "welcome" offer to Viper sailors
$75 for Weds to Sat.
This means you can launch, hoist and store your trailers over the regatta.

Its a GREAT DEAL and a fraction of what the other fleets are paying at Shake A Leg.

(Its also less than what J80s are paying at USSC).
Please remember to find Pat Downey and say "thank You" on behalf of the Viper fleet.

We are building a good relationship here and we are talking to them about hosting a Viper regatta out of USSC for $150 including dinner in 2013!

Awesome conditions.

Three races. Sleigh rides downwind.

Tips from Brad and Justin for folks coming next year:
1. Find a place to stay in the Grove - its where its at.
2. In the Easterlies, when the Sun comes out, there is a tendency for breeze to veer right a bit.
3. Sand Bar has penny drafts if you are buying for ladies or say you are buying for ladies
4. See # 3 above, its important.
5. Pudding wrestling is safer than bull riding. Maybe. Don't ask.
6. This is come of the most incredible Viper sailing in the planet.
7. Get a guest card from CRYC so you can buy drinks at the Tiki bar when you step off the boat.

Gotta Go.

Team Last Call would like to join the party!

Count 3 in!

Tip # 8.  Don't mess with Sam and the Last Call.
If you want to do something dangerous, go ride a mechanical bull.

Got home last night.

Great week.

Logistics sorted. Thanks to USSC for hosting launch/haul of Vipers + easy parking. Thanks to CRYC for docking and guest cards at the bar.

I can sum up the weekend as some great racing among good friends.

All over the race course, upwind tactics and downwind jibing duels, it was boat on boat against friends and lots of close competition and good laughs.

" Hold on here, we're crossing Phil, lets tack on his hip"
" Here comes the Last Call, oh man,  looking really good out of the left"
" We gybe when Joe gybes, ......Ben knows it, Zimm knows it, Here we go on three"
"Christ look at that chute, what the... has Double D tied the clew to the tack????"
First Race of last day -  " Craig, dont piss off Deborah!"
and so on.

Last 200 yards of the last run of the last race of the last day summed up the regatta for us. Three boats downwind, in a line, lying in 2nd 3rd and 4th for the regatta overall. Beautiful breeze, blue water and three boats that have been within points of each other for the whole regatta are separated by half a boat length going into the final finish and.........we commence a gybing duel.          Mambo on left gybes to starboard forcing Aresthusa onto stbd, Last Call hardens up sharply to take both sterns by a hairs width. Mambo gybes back, Last call gybes to stbd, Mambo gybes....hit layline, both gybe, Last Call comes out of gybe with the jump.....but wait here's Phil on Aresthusa again, bow out on both .

Never mind the final results. In the final 200 yards of the final race, boat on boat, Aresthusa beat the Call beat the Mambo Kings.....by inches.....and that gentleman and ladies is sailboat racing!

Personal thanks to Dave Nickerson from 3 Grins and to Mambo Kings regular, Pete Largess for sharing an epic road trip and some great sailing with me.
