There are a couple of Vipers signed up for the Annapolis NOOD. http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=938
The dates are listed as May 2-4, but we can talk about whether we'd get a better turnout if racing was just Saturday-Sunday for the Vipers, and maybe Friday could be a demo day.
There will be more Annapolis support for the boat in 2014 thanks to a Rondar push and if you're thinking about the event, there will be some local prospects available. There will even be places to leave the boat in the Annapolis area post-Charleston for those who want someplace to ditch the boat for a few weeks.
Who else can we get interested in this?
I'm all for either option. Working on logistics now. Intend for this to be a top notch event. Perhaps our own private tow in and out? Please chime in if anyone wants to leave their boats in Annapolis between Charleston and NOOD. Can I get a preliminary count of who is thinking of coming?
I am in if we can arrange to sail just Saturday and Sunday.
87 is going to Annapolis from Charleston - seems like the right place to be when there is still 18" of snow in Ottawa!
Any information on where to store the boat is most welcome.

Only 5 entries so far, need at least 6 to get our own start. Is it confirmed we are just 2 days for Vipers?
I don't know what's going to happen with this - we heard back from NOOD organizers late last week that they're not willing to make this a 2-day event for the Vipers. With the event at 3 days, I cannot participate and I suspect a few others can't either, though it would be great if some people wanted to pull it together. It is incredibly unrealistic and inflexible of NOOD organizers to get local participation for 3 days but if other classes can do it because of regional championships or an abundance of vacation time, more power to them.
Peter-- Thanks for your efforts on this. It does seem strange that they would be so strict. As it is, I will at some point withdraw from the event. I believe the NOR says we have until the 24th to do so.

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend either. I think that Marblehead made accommodation for classes to only race 2 of the 3 days.
I think other NOODs have made accommodations in the past, so I don't understand the stance here, but it is what it is. Marblehead NOOD 2014 will be 3 days FYI to anyone wondering, but it will also be Viper New England Champs.
I think we can, as a class, decide on a 2 day event. If no one shows up to the course on Friday, due to a lack of wind or "trouble launching", then that also is what it is, if you know what I mean. It would make things much easier for me to only sail 2 days and I will plan on that if the rest of you can plan on joining me.
In the meantime, allow me to also work on some back channels.
If we all agree to just sail 2 days and stick to it then the race management doesn't have much of a choice. We all just get a DNS for day 1. I would be in for that.
Good idea Joe, I would be in for that.
I am in for either. Trying to locate lodging now.
Hi Steve,
Get in touch with Geoff Ewenson for storage in Annapolis. He will be at CRW (sailing on a big boat). 410-320-2805

+1.......or more likely it will be scored DNC
Did Not Care.
Okay, we have 6 boats signed up on the agreement that we all score DNC (Do Not Care) for Friday.
If Peter and Joe sign up, that will take us to 8 boats! I'm in if we have 8 boats and I think we can build it a bit from there.

Tyler......some interest building in this. Please can you say a bit more about logistics. Ched is interested in sailing a Viper at Naptown NOOD and gave us a heads up that logistical planning (including where we hoist and launch) can make it a lot more enjoyable. A tow back and early arrival at docks/hoist could be very gold plated experience.
I'm working 2 leads for our own Class motorboat. I want it to be big enough to carry adequate beer. Launching wise, I'm trying to weigh between Jabin's which would cost a bit but be very nice, that sailing center where everyone launched last time, or a ramp. What would people prefer?
The sailing center we used in 2012 was good. It was the closest to the racing area and, at least back then, was not expensive. I would like to add that we will do either 2 or 3 days, whatever is decided.

I'm borrowing Geoff's boat and have entered.

Dan,
Any chance we can all launch at Eastport YC?

Thanks - will do.
So this is a bit vague - with the 2 day / 3 day issue, at least one registered boat (#124) indicating they may pull out - we may not have a class in any case. Do we still have 6?
For me it's a long way to go if we don't have a class/event - and if nobody shows up on Thursday to register, the organizers may not agree to let us race or give us a start.
Registered are 50, 54, 87, 69, 181 and 124.
Is everyone in for this event or not?
Steve
Yes, I'm in. We will race Sat and Sun. #44 should be signing up shortly as well as #201,#219, and #220 in the next few days.
I think 121 and 206 are interested too -- I cannot make it now due to a family commitment, but will help rally interest once we have 10 entries, which it sounds like we will soon -- I think a lot of other people will be excited to see 10 entries and will sign up accordingly. If you're on the fence, sign up and be part of the solution.
There are now 10 entries for the Annapolis NOOD. Exciting stuff, nice work everyone. Can we get to 15? No other organized Viper one design racing in the northeast until Larchmont Memorial Day May 23-24, so if you want to race (esp. if you missed Charleston), this is a good way to do it. Warmer than Canada too...
OK I'm all signed up. Anyone have some info on hotels?
I need a boat
Anyone know where the Vipers will be launching from?
Great to see 10 boats signed up now!
It would be very helpful to know where we launch from.
I would like to find accommodation close to the launch site.
Any ideas welcome...

Hi Everyone,
We will be launching out of Eastport YC. Closest YC to the race course and once out of the Club boat basin, you are in the harbor. Boats will stay in the water at EYC. It will cost each boat $20 to store the trailers nearby. I believe that is total for the weekend but it's possible that is per day. Anyway, Eastport YC is an awesome spot and we have club member Carl Smit to thank for arranging it and Dan Bowman and Geoff Ewenson for searching all the logistics and contacting all the parties involved here. If you see them, buy 'em a beer.
Next on my agenda is getting everyone checked in THU night. Details to follow.
I'll be there Friday morning and will practice in the afternoon with whoever is interested.
Thanks Tyler, I was wondering what to do about registration.
Well done Tyler!
We'll arrive late Thursday, too late to register, so well done.
We're up for a Friday afternoon sail. Plan to be at Eastport YC in the morning to get rigged and launched.
Steve
Vipers will be launching and docking at Eastport YC, on First St (around the corner from APS and next door to SSA). Trailers will have to be stored in their next door neighbor's yard, for $20 for the weekend.
Please everyone remember that sort of like Miami, this is a big event that somewhat overwhelms the local sailing infrastructure. Courtesy and respect goes a long way to getting us invited back! Please try to get in and out of EYC quickly and with as little fuss as possible. Things like dropping off your boat and parking your car on the street make a big difference... You'll be able to push the boat around, and the trailer to the neighbor.
As we now have a couple of Vipers living in Annapolis, and a multi-year strategy to grow a fleet there, you all can really help by making sure that Vipers are the "friendly & courteous" fleet, as usual!
