the start of day 2 race 3, as I remember it:
<one minute horn>
David:<confused tone> "Tim, where are we going? <anxious> the fleet is that
way" <points>
Tim: <tacking away from fleet> "no worries, Dave. no worries"
< a jybe and a few tacks later>
<Water Moccasin accelerates towards the comittee boat>
Betsy (Viperette #2): "we're gonna port tack the whole fleet? are you crazy?
are you going to give them the finger too?
Tim:" shut up, hike out, hold on and Prepare to tack!!"
<race horn>
Tim" See you in hades, Justin Scott!!"
well maybe that last line isnt true. but it sure is funny.
David
I don't think the word he used was "hades".
I will admit that the Mocassin truly "owned" that start. We caught on that the breeze was gradually clocking left from about 3 mins, and we planned to be 2-5 lengths from the pin. Just didn't think anyone would nail the fleet on Port.
I bet there was also a ribald conversation on your boat as you worked us across to the port layline. But the exchange I would really like the replay on was what was said at the leeward mark. Thought I overheard a few choice phrases from the Viperette as she slithered forward along the deck to see how much shrimp you had caught.
Ours went something like this:-
(Having earlier remarked that you were covering us tighter than a@##$$)
"Hold on Garth, don't jibe yet......"
" Let's go a couple boat lengths beyond the layline......in three....two....one...go"
"This should be interesting......coming in hot on starboard"
"Yup....their third day in a vIper.....wonder when its going to dawn on them that they haven't practised the leeward takedown."
"Ooooh its dawning.....ohma gawd...shrimpin'!"
