Title: What mast cover are the cool kids using?
Post by: Joe Quarantillo on December 07, 2019, 01:35:00 PM
I have a new Viper mast coming in the spring and I need a mast cover to protect it.  The cover I have came with the boat and would be better suited for a felt art project than protection. What cover is anyone using that can protect that beautiful carbon creation?

Pretty much just the Harken cover out there as far as I know. The key is if you won't be using the boat for a few weeks, take the mast down and cover it to keep it out of the sun, and paint your mast (ideally white) if the clearcoat is past its prime. When we take the mast down to cover the mast we leave spreaders on and just remove shrouds and instrument brackets to minimize hassle.

Harken makes two covers.

One is a heavy weight canvas cover, gray with ends in red canvas.  Great for trailering when you have mast in one piece, can be put on with spreaders on or off.  We have one (new) in stock $210.00, however with it being the Holidays and all, $150.00. Can ship put Monday.

Harken also makes a padded mast bag, for when the mast is broken down into two pieces (cannot be used when mast is in one piece).  Looking at 3+ week lead time with Holidays and all $280.00

I have both for our Viper.  The mast cover in one piece is easy to use by one person.

Hope I can help.

Craig, I will give you a call to settle up on the mast cover you have. If you can find the boom bag I'll do that one also
