Just a question for the masses:

What are current charter fees? say new boat vs. re-furb Bennett??

What type of discount should someone see if they supplied their own sails??

That means lots of curiosity and not much knowledge, I suspect.

I've heard numbers like $500 per race day for charters, if I recall.  But if you really want to know, contact Harve at advantageboating and ask him how much they charge.

I've paid $1500 per three-four day race weekend.  With various sets of sails provided.  Seems to be standard over the past two years.  Don't think there is any difference between older boats vs. new but I have raced two MkII Rondars and one MkIII.

Crap....I'm in the wrong biz. Maybe I shoudl be chartering instead of selling. $700/day including sails?

So a 3 day regatta with one day of practice is between 2000-2800?

How is the insurance handled? Delivery of the boat to the regatta? Checkout/Checkin Etc?

I've been in the charter biz for 33 years. Might be something to this.

I wonder if there's a market for fractional ownership on Vipers?

We were going to charter a boat for Long Beach Race Week.
At these rates?
I think we'll skip it.

Digging through some old emails, Harvey/Advantage Boating was asking $500/day plus $150 for insurance for Miami last year.  That included decent sails, and the boat was delivered and basically ready to go.

He was willing to throw in a practice day, so it would have been $2150 for four days racing and a fifth day.

I ended up buying a boat, but others did charter his boats as I recall.

Don't mean to be rude but;
I forgot, we are supposed to give you expensive toys to use for nothing right?

This is a base price to work on, I expect you can do the event and a practice day for $1500 if someone is willing to do a deal.

Personally I am finding out that it is not worth it for less than $500 a day plus a fee for good sails.

I should add...

Surprisingly, as a boat owner for a year+ now, $500-$700/day actually sounds pretty good for a boat that's delivered and set up.

What you don't have to do at that price:

- drive 1000-3000 miles for 2-3 days
- pay for gas for said trip
- rig the boat
- fix anything broken
- absorb the depreciation
- pay to store the boat elsewhere until the next charter
- etc. etc. etc

BOAT = Bust Out Another $Thousand.   I can see how there's a real upside to _not_ being an owner....

Just glad I don't own a Melges!

Thank you all, there is a lot that goes into the charter, wether the value is there is somethng that consumer decides.  Supply and demand baby, such is the punishment for our popularity.

Be glad you're not chartering a SC 50 for TransPac. $20K PLUS you buy a new main or kite and give it to the boat upon return. You pay for R/T delivery to/from destination.

SC70 will cost $40-50K

$500 day sounds pretty cheap for a Viper :-D

You looking to charter yours out??

Remember to write up a small contract and if you don't know the guy get a deposit and the charter fees up front.

Nope, I plan on sailing LBRW...  I know a few people are looking for a possible charter here, and I am hoping to get on a boat in Sarnia and was trying to prepare the missus about the bill...   ;)
