Title: Name placement
Post by: Luke Porter on April 28, 2011, 08:35:35 PM
In an attempt to keep myself occupied while I wait for my boat I've been working on the name. I figured I'd be smart and wait for the boat to arrive before I picked a size but then I realized mine's coming with a solid colour so I'd have to guess at where the waterline is.

I don't suppose someone can measure the distance between the waterline and gunnel for me? I know it increases from stern to bow so maybe a couple of measurements, primarily around the middle of the boat. I've noticed that most folks put the name in the middle since it's about the only place it can be seen. Is that right?

Thanks!

Luke

are we allowed to remove the viper decals in the cockpit BTW?  That seems like the best real estate on these boats for a name...   I don't mind having viper on my boat, but can we maybe downsize that and put our names there as well?

As long as the name isnt super long it should fit right in front of the viper logo

wait, so remove the brand name from something makes me vain?

anyway, to a lot of non viper people, having both there with the viper logo the size it is will be confusing.  We're probably NOT going to put a name on the boat anyway though...

Good, then I don't have to issue an executive order banning the removal of the branding  ;)

So what are you naming the boat??

well, my parents boats have always been avalanche (in three different flavors).  and our family also loves to ski.  So I've been on other snow terms for my boats that tie in with avalanche...  Sluff was the open because surface hoar got vetoed...  Dad basically said surface hoar was out because he didn't want it on scratch sheets with his name at the CYC... lol  So sluff it was.  But my vector was surface hoar, and my site is surfacehoar.com, so I'm thinking no stickers and the name will change depending on the venue? ha ha

BTW, in case you care, sluff is a small avalanche you cause yourself, surface hoar or hoarfrost is a type of snow crystal that leads to avalanches...

Don't they use dynamite to cause avalanches? :) Another name idea for ya...

yes, among other things, but again no... lol

But I checked out 111 down at sail newport today.  The new stickers are tiny, so removing them isn't an issue.  If they're the same size, then I'm remembering the size from our old 830...

Doesnt really matter what you name your boat now, it will always be affectionately known as "The Ho'".

Name/graphic in front of Viper logo is no problem.  We did ours last weekend -- again, huge thanks to Eric for making this happen -- the decals showed up before the boat did!

I meant to ask you over the weekend where the name comes from.

The only thing I know about Pandas is that they

Clearly they're also proficient in the martial arts.  Look at how that bad boy handles those nunchucks!  Don't F with that Panda!

Vicious Panda: its mystery is exceeded only by its power.  You'll figure it out at some point.  There's a theme.

Xylol (see Home Depot paint dept.)  "Do not take internally" (see back of can).

Wipe on generously with a rag, let sit for 10 min (reapply a couple times if needed), then it should have soaked through the decal, softened it a bit, and attacked the glue.  Slowly peel of decal in one piece.
