Title: Jeff in Corpus - expecting to get the crap kicked out of him- Go the Squidge!
Post by: Justin Scott on May 16, 2011, 03:25:31 PM
Jeff took one look at the highly paid entry list of rock stars at this week's Melges 24 Worlds and confidently forecast that he would get the "crap kicked out of me".

But Viperers know how to sail for fun and we're rooting for him to win the party and spring a few suprises on the water as well.  One thing for sure, the Italians and Norwegians wont have an inflateable doll as part of their inventory of secret weapons.

Corpus is famous for huge breeze and chop, so hoping Jeff can give us a few reports. I told Jeff that as long as he doesnt end on a beach upside down than he can claim to be on an improving trend!

Really quick update. If I have got the right boat from Austin (and I could be making a mistake), then they finished 17th overall in the first race and 2nd in the Corinthian division.

Against that caliber of competition that is a hell of an improving trend over the beach!

Thanks Justin, yes - that was us.  If i can get us off the line clean we have enough boat speed to make it respectable.  However there are boat's in this event that have two more gears, amazing.

The melges is a complicated, (brutal) boat to sail.  Lot's of gears to go through.  Only my second regatta on the boat...  and certainly rewards people with time in em'.    The top 25 boat's at this regatta are crazy good sailors.   The next five are probably rock stars at their respective clubs.  The last two are solid sailors.

I miss my viper

I did win the part Saturday night.  Finally ended at 4 AM when the clubs all shut down.   We stunk it up in the practice race on Sunday so my crew made me behave last night.  Looks like that was smart.

Jeff sailed another good first race today. Then it looked like he had a tough first beat in the second race and its very hard to find passing lanes.

I have to admit, looking at the video and pics, Corpus looks like some hard core sailing.
