Saw in the results going into the last day (today) that the Etchell with Somers crewing is leading by 2 points over anothert Etchell with a "Hal Kempe" crewing.

Is this a family rivalry?  Since Somers owns a Viper and Hal does not, we are rooting for the Somers boat.

In other news, the Bermuda Viper fleet is now up to two boats and Somers is already making plans about how to persuade the Viper fleet to come to Bermuda Race Week.

Cant think why Somers thinks we would have any interest in sailing somewhere like this!!!!!!

There's something wrong with the shape of those spinnaker-like sails.
Race it like you stole it.

And one with a wine glass logo labeled "BEER"?   ;-)

Thanks for the support Viper fans!
Although sailing on an Etchells all week was defiantly not my preferred ride, it was a blast sailing out on the Great Sound in all round conditions through the week.  Made for a very balanced regatta, giving everyone their suited conditions at one point or another.  We did come out on top in the end, although we ended up doing it the hard way having to recover from some shocking starts in the last two races.

Race Week is a superb event to sail in - I know Justin has done one before, although it may be too far back in the historical brain to recall!

I am excited to welcome another boat to the local fold, but would love to get a group of Vipers here to Bermuda in the near future.  Timing and transport are the two biggest hurdles, but nothing insurmountable.

My largest idea is to have boats ship out at the end of the New England sailing season from NJ to BDA, where they can spend time in BDA through the winter and have a few weekend regattas.  Then ship them direct from BDA to FL for the March events on Biscayne Bay.

This is what sailing in the Great Sound, Bermuda looks like in a Viper...  I know Justin loves the location - rivals Biscayne Bay.
