Getting hold of Rondar

Does anyone have a good method to get hold of Rondar? I'm trying to find out the status of my boat (hull #166), specifically when it's going to be started/completed and shipped/delivered, but I can't get any real info from Rondar. Even the usually quick and helpful Claire hasn't gotten back to me.

The potential crew are asking questions and I also need to know when to activate insurance, customs, graphics etc. There's also been a lot of interest in the boat locally so something to tell potential owners would be good too. Thanks.

Hi Luke,

You might want to try to call your local rep directly.  He might be able to help you out?

I'm shocked to hear that Claire hasn't e-mailed you back.  You're right, she's usually very good at that.

Always good advice, the best place to start. I'm actually sitting in Drew's office and he'll be calling Rondar shortly, I'll try to find out.

Sent from my Vibrant using Tapatalk & Swype, forgive the Swypos.

Luke,

If your boat is in the Larchmont #2  container with #163,164,165, you can expect arrival sometime in May. Most likely mid to late May.
LYC #1 is supposed to arrive May1.
The production rate is normally one boat per week.
Containers are usually one month apart, but Rondar may be squeezing more hours out of the crew to meet seasonal demand.
Give a post if you hear anything, one of the above is mine.

Mine's being shipped direct RORO to Halifax, NS. Last I heard was May some time, given the above I'm guessing later May but some sort of confirmation would be nice. Thanks for the updates.

Hey Luke,

Just off the phone with Paul.

Best way to reach Rondar is a phone call. I use Skype. Alternatively email is good but they get a LOT of emails. For example, the boat shipments each represent a couple of dozen emails from all the various agencies...lots of boxes moving East from the UK right now.

Claire has been uber busy with her move and she's got 741 emails in her computer waiting to be dealt with...one weeks worth.

Your boat is slated to be built by May 9 and shipped on the next RoRo to Halifax after that. I suspect, given the 9 days transit to your neck of the woods you should see this boat 3rd week of May.

Hope this helps you schedule customs/crew, etc.

Thanks for the info folks. PY isn't an easy to get on the phone and once I was put in contact with the ever efficient Claire I left the poor guy alone.

What you guys have told me lines up with everything else and gives me enough to work with. I'll chase PY closer to the time to get more exact info. There's some trailer details that have to be sorted out to get it into Canada. Importing the boat is easy, the trailer not so much.

Luke,

Drew is persona non grata with canadian customs. He can tell you how NOT to import a trailer. Harvey Barnes on the other hand should be helpful.

According to Canadian Customs there are an almost infinate number of ways *not* to import a trailer but only one rather conveluted way to do it properly. I'm not sure I understand all the fuss over a little trailer but there you go. As long as it has a little sticker that says the right thing I should be golden. Otherwise I might have to call Drew ...

I had an awful experience importing a power boat and trailer into canada where all I was doing was trying to do the right thing and pay all the (absurd) taxes and they let the boat in no problem, but impounded the trailer for absolutely no reason.  I had to turn around put the boat in the water, drive it accross the border and then leave the trailer in the US.  Total jerks who had no interest in anything but enforcing really arbitrary rules.  Makek sure it has a VIN number or some kind of title for a home-built and you should be aok, but who knows.

Drew Harper

Trailers have full DOT Vin #'s now...we're way past the homebuilt thing of the past.

Should be pretty easy. I would contact Harv. He's the guy with all the Northern Territories knowledge.

Yeah...I can't race the NA's....they'll let me in easy enough...just not out.

I got it all figured out, all I need is a sticker on the trailer saying it's legal. It doesn't have to actually be legal, it just has to say it is. With that I can get everything out of the container terminal and then I'll figure out if there's anything I need to do to get the trailer past inspection. Before the ever-efficient Claire got busy we came up with a plan. I just need to check that the plan (ie the sticker) is in place before the boat leaves Rondar.

I'll show you how to deal with Canadian customs if you'll show me how to get into the US in under 4 hours and without the intensive interrogation. Getting south is like trynig to break out of prison at times!

The trailers have a DOT plaque riveted to them now. All good to go!
