Title: Electronics
Post by: Tom Peterson on August 06, 2011, 09:47:25 AM
I am trying to get a good idea of the electronics people are using and what is a good buy with the new rule changes. I saw some older posts but I am sure a lot has changed. Any information would be helpful instead of finding out the hard way. Thanks!

Lots of folks have Tactic micro's which is a fluxgate compass. Quite a few have added a gps based knotmeter to that...mostly velocitek SC-1 or speed pucks.  There's a new velocitek that has a speedo and a gps based compass in it. Doesn't give you  heading...gives you course over ground.

There's only one box that has both a fluxgate compass (heading) and gps based knot meter all in one. The Novasail 360.

Lots of folks have those...including me, APS, Mauri Sailing and Sailing Pro Supply.

Biggest issue is where to mount it. The headknockeer (spinn halyard) precludes all standrd mast mounts from working. Jeff Jones has made a cool mount that works with the head knocker in place. Otherwise, I just mount my 360 on the bulkhead just under the jib halyard.

I'm hoping to make a carbon bracket that will be small and fit a 360.
