Title: Dinghy Sailing
Post by: Jason Hyerstay on October 08, 2020, 09:03:09 AM
I didn't get to sail my Viper 640 all season. Meanwhile I watched as a dinghy fleet started racing at LCYC this summer, wishing I was out there too. I picked up a used RS Aero 7 last weekend, and will be sailing it next year. We actually have five Aeros at the club now, plus a number of Lasers.

I think getting out in a dinghy will really help improve my my Viper sailing. Anyone else doing dinghy racing, or picked one up in this lost summer?

Cheers

There has been some talk at my club about dingy racing but nothing has happened.

There is a pretty active DF65 fleet though.

I race on a Viper, sailing PHRF, on Wednesday nights though.  That satisfies my need!

In Hampton (HYC) we sail 505 every Tuesday night = Great x training for the Viper...

Cool Darren and Henry. I did some junior sailing as a kid, but I was always cold. No one told me about neoprene. As a teenager, I did some sailboarding, and had a Force 5. I got another Force 5 right before my first Viper 640, but I barely sailed it.

I never wanted to buy an uncomfortable Laser, but the Aero seems really ergonomic. I just got a kit for the over-deck control line conversion, so I will have a winter project. I never get to work on my Viper during the off-season, but the Aero fits thru a basement door.

yep, I race a finn at the dinghy club next door on sundays, part time mainsheet is in a finn, forward hand is on a laser 4.7. keeps us all honest.. whoever wins on sundays gets to drive the viper on following Friday night!
