Broken Main Sheet Block

This is Viper 100.

Has anyone had to replace the old harken mainsheet block mounted to the deck?  The center bolt snapped. The center bolt and the internal bottom plate loosely spin and there is no evidence of key or pin to release.  We tried to remove the deck mounting screws and they just spin without loosening the mounting plate.

Before we start cutting holes to access the back side of the mount, is there an "easier" way to fix this?

If we have to cut an access hole in the deck, should we cut forward or aft of the mount?  Is there any knowledge of internal stringers or structural elements in the area of the main sheet block mount that we need to avoid?

Any words of advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Please Help,
Morgan

Hey Morgan,

This happened to us earlier this year on 74.  The part your showing is a Ronstan swivel base.  This should be replaced with a Harken 144.  I do not have the measurements for the inspection port on hand. But I can tell you it is installed approximately 1/2 to the centerboard trunk.

Hey Morgan,

The best source for this sort of information is the "Repairs, Maintenance and Upgrades " forum .  https://forum.viper640.org/repairs-maintenance-and-upgrades/

It is in the Members section.  If you dont have access to that section, give Buttons Padin a ping. He will get you access.   If you are not a member, it is only $25 to become a member (associate).....which is great value.
