Title: Boat transport / required regattas
Post by: Somers Kempe on December 31, 2010, 10:02:42 AM
Hi All - as 2011 is upon us, what are some suggestions of required regattas for the Bermudian contingent this year??  I think 2011 is the year that we will finally purchase a boat and get the Bermuda fleet officially started, so this will be an exciting year.

But before diving head long into boat ownership, I was wondering what types of services are available stateside for transport of boats up and down the East Coast?  I know that Harvey Barnes has a double stack trailer that gets towed about - but for the private boat owner (who doesn't live in the States, or have the time or vehicles for road trips before and after regattas) what are some of the solutions available to help move the boats around to the different regattas?

Thanks in advance for comments and ideas.

Happy New Year!

Somers

p.s. I have a bunch of people interested in sailing in this years Bacardi Sailing Week already and will most likely be looking for a few charter boats.  All top quality sailors as well if anyone is thinking of being generous and has a boat in the area that may be available.

That is exciting!

Paul Zimmerman also has a double stack trailer. Ben Parker may be available to move boats. I also have a gentleman in FL named Gene Hinkel, who moves loads of Paralympic boats, Stars, Etchells, and new Sonars all up and down the east coast or cross country. Gene has a solid rack on his truck and could handle a double stack trailer + 1 on the rack. You also may have met Ezra Culver, another friend of mine in Miami last year, who is a rigger and boat nanny. he'll do moves also.

I would trust any of those 3 to move Vipers with care. Any one of them could do set-up and breakdown as well. I can get you contact info for all of them.

Somers,

It will be nice to see you get a boat, Although you are already quick enough with a charter boat that is not always rigged correctly.
See you at the next regatta....

I also have a bunch of people that move boats around for a fair price. Let me know if I can do anything for you.

Karen Scholl has moved a ton of boats for me. VERY reliable and the most affordable I can find.

Guys, let's start a resource here for boat movers.

+1 regarding Rick Peters. Also Oren Beach moves boats (mostly Etchells and Melges) around. Will post his contact info.
