We are looking into doing the Bacardi Cup in March and the logistics of moving our boat which is in Newport, RI to Miami.
Our tow vehicle is already in Florida so i am looking into other ideas. One option is to have the boat shipped by layline yacht services on a flatbed trailer we could fit at least two boats or more.  Any one in the New England area looking to get their boat south as well?

Any other ideas?

Someone could buy #19 out of Atlanta and save 1000 miles of transportation.   Could meet you in Savannah along I-95.    Or find me a crew spot and I'll deliver and set it up, and even bring it back up to Savh afterwards.

I don't think we are ready for a two boat program any time soon.  Would you consider chartering the boat without sails?

Dave,

I used a bloke called Chris, his company is called Blue Cast Transport to get my boat south last year. Did a nice job.

Alternatively I am kicking my heals down here in Florida, I could drive your truck up North grab the boat and come back down directly. For a modest fee of course!

If you want to go that way call me 401 855 4377.

There is a flatbed going down to FL with Glyn Locke's boat on it. They are looking for another boat to share the ride. The price seemed reasonable. Charles Goodrich from Stamford YC fleet had the details.

Soon as Jonesy perfects the double trailer....Im thinking we should buy a few.

FYI all, Rondar has just developed a nice bit of kit to convert two standard (current) Rondar Viper road trailers into a double axle, double stack. Unbraked, so you'll want to tow with a decent vehicle with enough braking power. We assumed you'll tow with something like a 1/4 ton pickup or mid-sized SUV, and at least one keel will go in the truck bed, to keep the cost of this kit down. You could sort out a way to fit keels to the lower trailer if you like, plenty of load capacity with it as a double axle. Arrive at the regatta, unload the top boat, bit of time with wrenches, and voila! You have two boats back on their existing trailers. Rather a clever solution, IMHO.

One of these kits arrives this week via RoRo in Port Elizabeth with a Viper and K6 on it. We'll be testing it out on US roads for a bit. As soon as we're 100% satisfied that it's good, you'll be able to order it from us ready to rock for approximately $2000 FOB Peabody or SFO, timed with a container from the UK. Ours will be galvanized, like the trailers. If two owners split the capital cost, it gets pretty cost effective after just a couple of trips.

We'll also make the plans available for free, if you want to have a local welder build one for you. You'll be able to have this made up to the plans, ungalvanized, for less, and not deal with shipping this from Peabody or SFO. We're more interested in helping to get more Vipers to events than making a buck on this.

Not in time for Miami or Charleston, but will be good to go in time for NAs.

Danny, we are very excited out here about this development...   2 kits  and you can stack 4 boats on a 48' flat bed...   think we can go 3 high ?...   :)

On a flatbed, my instinct is yes, as keels can ride on the truck. Provided you're not over-height all up. I may be a bit of a cowboy when it comes to these sorts of things though, so I'll check with the Wizard of Wiltshire for a more considered opinion.

BTW, keep an eye on the Rondar Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/rondarboats I'll take some pics of the way we've flipped one and stacked 2 boats. I think you _might_ be able to do that with the second boat's  trailer upside down on top of the whole deal (?). That would be a bit of stress on the lower boat, so better yet, find another way to squeeze the top boats trailers onto the flatbed. Probably with axles & bunks off... The current Rondar road trailer is 400 pounds, btw. Weighed one out of curiosity as we were loading, it was 390# without the jack.

Dan, can a second current style axle be bought with the kit so the kit can be modified to top stack an older style trailer on top of a newer one?

Glyn Locke is having trouble with the forum while vacationing in NZL. If anyone is interested in sharing a flatbed to Miami, please contact him directly via email glyn.locke at mac.com. His boat is currently at the Rondar USA shop in Peabody, MA. I'm not involved with any details, or privy to costs, so don't ask me!  :)
