Just got to my desk and I wanted to extend a hearty thanks to all the snakes who came out to Dago for this shin-dig....

I had a great time meeting everybody and really enjoyed the racing.... now if I can just figure out the downwind angles and succesfully get the kite back into the rabbithole @ the end of the run...  :)

Again, Thanks to all and let's do this again...

We put helmokot (like mclube but waaay cheaper) on our spinnaker. i was skeptical at first, but i think that was our problem (before, too much friction especially when the spin got wet). also we had the class rock star onboard aka VENOMISS

Thanks Glen....

Don't you just hate how the aluminium rigs are not competetive with the carbon rigs....   ;)

i won't get into that!!! may be stacey might chime in on that. i've never sail the carbon rig. having dacron sails and being able to adjust the shape better than plastic sails helps also. although looking at the carbon rigs, i think moving the chainplates foreward a few inches would give you more rig tune flexibility. but i'm no designer. although i did stay at a holiday inn express!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Holmenkol product.  I was sure the "Astroglide" was not going to was out of the sail easily...  ;0

We use the Holmenkol.  Reduces wear and tear from friction on the spinnaker.  Sometimes friction is good, but not for the spinnaker!

Do you swipe it on with a brush? Is there any discoloration with it?

I've been using McLube and like it, but it's pricey.

Also, we use millionaires tape on the entrance tube and metal bar to the kite alley. Works great.

Congrats to Glen, Tony and Timbo. Very well sailed regatta and LOTS of fun to party with.

I sure hope Scot does this one again!!!! Everyone send him a message of thanks and ask him to do it next year.

It's easiest to "mop" on.  No discoloration and works on all sail fabrics.
DO NOT TRY TO SPRAY.

Nice seeing everyone out there!

Holmenkol is the shiznit. Slickerer than hot snot. Used on on all the kites and upwind sails on the paralympic boat. It's not super cheap, and it's use it or lose it once you mix it. Have it on the jib and the kite and they damned near bounce off one another. Soak your spin sock in it too...

Think I'll pick some up while I'm in Naptown next week...
Race it like you stole it.

Matt Sole

So is Holmenkol better than McLube or just better value. IF they were the same price which would be preferable??
Booze it or lose it

sorry about the hijack on the holmenkol earlier.
stacey, nigel and myself had a great time sailing in coronado. the crew work was flawless. thanks guys!. our boat is bone stock #34(alluminum rig, no keel mod yet). we carried doyle main and jib bought from viper55 and (new)elliot/pattison spin. the winds would be up and down between 8-13 kts all weekend. it must have been tough for the 5.70s and u20s since they are so sticky in those conditions. we had good boatspeed all weekend due to constantly adjusting for conditions. we were able to put the hammer down on the melges, open 6.50, and thompson 650 going to weather. but when they turned the corner their massive sail area took over and they were able to get by. only a few times the vipes were able to hold them off. again the under canvassed open 5.70s were a non factor. the top u20 was always there but didn't quite have the sustainable boatspeed to be a factor. it was good to here that other boats in our fleet had some quality cat 3 pros onboard. so it made winning even sweeter as this is only our 3rd regatta with the boat. and racing against other sporties in our size range, this regatta is definetly a 'must do'. so put it on your list for next year!

people expressed interest in tuning out on alamitos bay sometime in the near future. i would love for us to swap boats and see what we're doing right or wrong, the different setups, sails, ext..
fyi...we were using for base rig settings 35 uppers and .....just drew a blank...anyway 8" circle for lowers on loos guage for alluminum rig and adjusted 2-3 rounds from there up or down depending on wind and sea conditions. hope this helps. glenn 'snake eyes'
