WICKFORD REGATTA 2012 IS COMING! MAY 19-12, 2012

Thanks to all of you for making Wickford Regatta 2011 a great success. We hope to see all of you again this year, plus a few more of your friends. It is our goal to put on a better show every year and the 2012 edition promises to be the best yet. We have added the F-18 Catamarans to the dance card this year and they promise to come in force. The Vipers that were delayed in shipment last year are now present and accounted for plus many more. I-420s and C-420s are ready to go and the Lasers won’t have to thaw out from this winter’s non-Frostbiting. The A-Cats and 505’s will be challenged for ultimate bragging rights by many new sailors. And the Foiling Moths are threatening to appear again in 2012.

We are planning to add live music to the dinner party this time to keep the party going a bit longer and the menu will be better than ever. As usual, we will have a nice selection of cool, refreshing beverages for all ages to keep you hydrated for dancing and sailing. And the Wind Gods have promised to cooperate both days.

We have to apologize for an embarrassing website error that has been directing everyone to last year’s website until today. The error has been corrected and the entry process is now open, so let’s get those entries in and show everyone in your class that the Wickford Regatta is a must in 2012. We are offering “Cash Back” again this year and hope that every class meets their entry quota. Go to www.wickfordregatta.com and register right away!

See you soon,

There are still errors -- it wants to charge me a late fee for registration since I'm registering after May 20, 2011, and the link on the website to current entrants still links to the 2011 scratch sheet.  In any case, Viper 161 is in.

It's not charging the late fee anymore, looks like Skip is still working out a couple of other glitches.  Let's get to 12 boats to get some cash back!

Here's an update from Skip.  The 2012 entry list is accessable now.

Thanks again to all of you for making Wickford Regatta 11 a huge success. Last month we sent out a notice with misleading dates. THE REAL DATES FOR WICKFORD REGATTA 12 ARE MAY19-20, NOT 19-12. As usual, this is the weekend before Memorial Day. You can put 2013 on you calendar right away. The dates will be May 18-19, 2013.

The Preliminary NoR has been replaced with a final version on the website and is attached to this message. No big changes, but we will welcome the Foiling Moths once again and the optional launching fee for Vipers at Brewer's Wickford Cover Marina has been reduced from $80 to $50.

Registrations have started to come in and the Vipers are in the early lead. Which class will get to 20 first?

Finally, we are delighted to announce that the Ten Tod Ramblers will bring their special brand of folk/rock and lots of other stuff to the party on Saturday night. Remember your dancing shoes!

See you soon!

Reminder to all that Wickford is the first regatta on the 2012 Viper Northeast Circuit.  I will try to put together some sort of circuit prize as mentioned in the previous thread for the overall winners and road warriors, to be given out after the final circuit event (HPDO).

Email from Skip Whyte, who is awaiting forum membership approval while we are all in Charleston:

Hello Viper sailors and friends,

We're just a month away from Wickford Regatta 2012 and we are excited to welcome the Vipers for the third  time.  We GUARANTEE you will have great races, great food, great dancing, and a killer good time.  The attached NoR has all the details. The entry is $140, but you get $20 back if the class has 12 or more entries.  From what I'm told, that should be easy.  There are late fees if you procrastinate too long, so get on it right away and let the rest of the Vipers know that you WILL BE THERE!!!

I am excited to see that the tune up race for the Wickford Regatta (AKA Charleston Race Week) is such a huge success.  Everyone will certainly be on their game by race time on May 19th.  Those who came last year will be happy to learn that the optional launch/haul deal at Brewers has been reduced to $50 from $80.  We will continue to provide tows to Brewers for those launching at the free Wilson Park ramp on Friday.

We are doing our best to provide free housing to as many as possible, but we can't accommodate everyone.  First entered, first served, so get your entry in and then contact our housing contact, Pinkie Sweet-Holland.  You will find details on the regatta website at www.wickfordregatta.com.  You will also find information about hotels in the area, but be aware that it will be URI commencement weekend, so supply is limited.

We are looking forward the a great time with all of you.

Can someone give some advice on the logistics of this regatta for me.

Is the Wilson park ramp the easy way to go or should I book a launch and haul at Brewers?

How late can we show up on Friday? I have to work a full day.
How long from dock to race course ? (for those of us with crew that sleep late on Sat mornings)

Most of us used the Wilson Park boat ramp last year with Paul Zim and Chuck Allen towing us to the Pleasant street wharf pretty late (7:00 or so)on Friday.  The racing circle is about 1.5 nm from the dock.

Justin - we launched at Brewers last year.  A benefit is that there is fresh water so you can hose the boat down after hauling and it comes with a floating dock.  It's also much closer to the beach where the dinghies launch and is the location of registration and the closing event.

We arrived early Saturday a.m. and launched that morning.
