Another vote for the Velocitek Shift. Fantastic piece of gear, as it's smooth and stable, and can track your headings on each tack, giving you degrees of shift, and remember it from tack to tack and leg to leg. It works like the Tacktic Race Master, or old KVH Sailcomp (anyone remember those?!?). Replaceable battery, unlike the Tacktic Micro or Race Master. It sucks when you have to throw one of those away because the battery failed! And it has the most useful feature of the Prostart, which is the same great timer functionality. Nice big display.

I do have Prostart as well, but find that I primarily use it for secondary speed feedback, as Peter said, mostly when going really fast, or really slow. I've used the distance to line, but not enough to truly get comfortable with it. If I were starting from scratch, I'd get a Shift and Speedpuck, as it's the best bang for the buck combo.

FYI Rondar USA a Velocitek dealer and I will actually discount these things to Viper owners if anyone cares. Contact me if interested.
Race it like you stole it.
