Title: Viper 640 PHRF
Post by: Jason Hyerstay on March 13, 2017, 09:00:01 PM
In 2016, I created a sportboat rating matrix comparing popular sportboats vs the J/70:

I hope this is a useful reference. Our local rating is now PHRF 105.

Cheers,

Jason

I had it at 102 from the 2016 PHRF book, but I updated it and the boat count, and the VX One rating.

Thanks

I put that in, but I can't find any record in the US Sailing book or the DRYA site.

That is the number, I need to forward my valid list to US Sailing this year.

I did a lot more updating, and checked the ratings and numbers with every region. The link is the same, but I will repost it.

I still have questions about South Texas (CCMORF), Monterey Bay.

For Lake Ontario, I can't find a list to verify the local ratings or boat counts. They do have a list, but it excludes boat models! If anyone can help with LO, I would really appreciate it.

Jason, there are 5 boats that I can find registered with PHRF-LO and a few different ratings based on sail measurements.  Ratings are 2@106, 1@107, and 2@108; numbers are only valid with outboard motor carried on board (12 second hit if we don't have a motor)

Thank you. I ended up looking at each and every current cert, which was an exercise in repetition. I also made contact with an admin, who gave me a file of base ratings. Unfortunately PHRF LO is very strange in the handling of ODR boats that the base rating is quite different from the adjusted rating for each boat.

Would you be able to tell me the ASP and boat counts for each of the other ODR boats on my list?

PS, maybe some of those Viper owners should check their spin measurements and all pick one standard number to get the same rating.

EDIT:

I got a another reply from the admin, but I couldn't see the expired certs, but I did get ASPs. I had to guess on which model might be which, but I think I got it:

With a little deduction it looks like:

#   Model          FS   ASP
8   Melges 24   075   087
7   Viper 640    087   107*
1   VX One       096   107
1   Melges 20   117   129
7   J/70           096   111

Henry. You have lifelines. They are under the gunwhale. No one has had an issue with phrf in that regard
