2011 NCOC memorial day weekend
« on: April 28, 2011, 07:47:39 AM »
NCOC this weekend in Beaufort NC. 55 is going in the ocean to race for the first time.

Looking at 8-10kts and 2-4ft sea....4 second intervals. Should be just fine.

I get to race a Thompson T8 and a J-122 and a NY40, Beneteau 36.7, a Schroder-Heinritz 38? whatever that is...rates a 54.

should be interesting. I'll let you know.

Weather will be perfect offshore....hope 55 survives the ocean swell. One more day!

That's an, um, _interesting_ fleet to race a Viper against.  Big swells are fun, particularly with a touch more breeze!

official report.....Ocean sailing in a Viper is awesome...but must have wind to race symetrical boats...

We did well upwind against all but the J-122, even in some rough sea's....but those big boats sail straight down and we just had to sail a longer course. The boat handled the seas much better than I thought it would....it was much easier than that Charleston harbor chop!

too bad the winds never went over 13kts...we would have done better. Still got to show the Viper to more people in NC in hopes of a small fleet someday.

Probably wouldn't have taken too much more breeze  to beat a J/22.  Oh well.

BoB (Butts on the Boat!) = NO (New Owners)

A J ONE-22, as in 122, Dan....the 40footer goes to windward pretty well.

This weekend is back to racing Henry Frazier on his Etchell's......those things sail STRAIGHT downwind. Going to be hot and light. Summer in NC
