Everybody should come to this on the water party and gathering of Vipers that is masquerading as a regatta.

I was in Greenwich earlier this week and got a bit of a preview of what they have in mind for us. The two clubs are really pushing the boat out. Our entry includes two dinners at two beautiful historic clubs. They want to make it fun for all competitors.

On Thursday, instead of the usual ho hum boring practice race, there is going to be some casual and fun team racing. Its aimed at folks who have not team raced before so there will be coaching and debriefs. For folks who have team raced before - you will be hobbled with someone who has not team raced before. Kay , you have been warned. The Viper is ideal for team racing and it is a fun and growing element of our sport that embraces everyone from the front to the back of the fleet. David Eve and I will be calling our team something like "X Rated Ex Pats", "Bloody Poms" or "Her Majesty's subjects". The team racing will be run by IHYC Director of sailing who is something of an expert on the subject and will provide all kinds of support and encouragement to all of us that are new to the genre.

For those that can only show up late on Thursday there will be a willing team of riggers and Viper fans ready to help get you ready to go on Friday morning.

The class agm will take place on one evening during the regatta. It will be kept mercifully succinct but it will give you the opportunity to throw rotten fruit at your friends on the exec committee.

The sailing is usually very nice on the Sound in September. Hopefully the fall gradient winds will be in effect, but the days are still long enough and warm enough to provide an afternoon sea breeze as a back up.

If you come intending to place in the top five - good luck and good sailing!
If you come to be part of a great gathering, where we will have forty Vipers on one start line, some great sailing and great camaraderie then I promise your wishes will be fulfilled.  The metric we intend to use to measure the success of this regatta is whether every boat that came had a good time.

Please let us know what we have to have in place to encourage you to attend. We intend to have on the water coaching again, debriefs after racing, and lots of rum. If you need anything else, (like local babysitter etc). Let us know!
