How many boats are expected from the US?  Seems like getting a boat from Sydney to Perth may be more expensive.

Calling all Vipers – it's time to make plans to head down under!

We are all invited to attend the Viper 640 World Championship being hosted in Perth next February 17-23.  The North American Executive Committee has been working hard to put together a logistics package that makes the shipping your boat to this bucket list event easy to do, and at a reasonable cost. If you haven't looked at the promotional video or background information from the South of Perth Yacht Club fleet, you should do so. To see more about sailing in Perth and to register go to http://www.sopyc.com.au/viper-640-world-championship-2018.

We have put together a turn-key logistics package, backed and organized by the Class, to ensure sending your Viper to Australia is relatively painless. Rondar has also pitched in to supply racks and expertise to pack the containers. Our hosts in Perth have offered to receive and store the boats until the event. It can't get any easier than this....

The plan is to pack-up all the boats into containers in Ft. Walton. Simply bring your boat on the Sunday after the Beacon Group Viper 640 North American's to the local marina where we will prepare and stack the boats (just as they are when shipped from Rondar UK to the USA), then they will be loaded into a container Monday. The Class and our selected logistics partner, CH Robinson, will prepare the paperwork using an International Carnet to provide a duty free entry to Australia and back into the USA. The container will ship through Savannah, GA to Fremantle, Australia, arriving 60 days or so later (early January).

The same process happens in reverse after the event in Perth. If we can fill more than one container, we can send one to Long Beach if there are enough boats going to the west coast. The boats should be back and clear in the USA by the end of April.

Cost:    Ft Walton-Perth-Hampton                   $3,750 per boat*

Ft Walton-Perth-Long Beach              $3,350 per boat*

* Note: these are the single container costs divided between four boats. If fewer boats are shipped in a container, the cost per boat will be increased accordingly.

This includes everything (loading, documentation, fumigation, inspection, trucking to port, sea freight, insurance, terminal charges, off-loading, clearing and local delivery) in both directions. This is less than any of us spent to get to Bermuda and back! As noted above, these costs are based on 4 boats per container. If we partially fill one or more containers, we'll share the cost across the group to get the overall lowest cost, which will be confirmed within 3 days of our cut-off date, before you receive an invoice.

And to those who think the travel is expensive, there are tickets for sale this week (American Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Virgin Australia) $1,020 from NYC, or $910 from LA round trip! Now that's a bargain! (see https://www.kayak.com/flights/LAX-PER/2018-02-14-flexible-1day/2018-02-25-flexible-1day or https://www.kayak.com/flights/NYC-PER/2018-02-13-flexible-2days/2018-02-24-flexible-1day)

So how does this work?

1.     Confirm back to Steve Chapman at [email protected] indicating that you want to send your boat to Perth.
2.     Cut-off date is Oct 7.
3.     Payment of 80% required by Oct 10
4.     Paperwork will be done before Oct 21
5.     Bring your boat Sunday morning after the NA's to the marina in Ft Walton
6.     Balance due Feb 1, 2018
7.     Show up in Perth and sail one of the world's best locations!
8.     In April, collect your boat from Hampton, Long Beach or have it u-Ship'd home.
This will be a great destination regatta. The Aussies will throw a great party...so don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sail your Viper in Perth!

Update - we have delayed the loading of the container from the US for approximately 3 weeks.
Planning to load just after US Thanksgiving in Ft Walton.

We still have a fantastic deal for the logistics.
Housing costs in Perth are very reasonable.
Flights can be had for approx $1000 return from most major airports in the US.

and most importantly, the Aussies will throw a great party (and the sailing is fantastic).

Thats a bargain, Im spending more than that to trail my boat over plus the long drive. Come on you Yanks, get down here. Seems like you are scared of the Perth Boys on their home turf.

Top Ten Reasons to come to Perth:-

#1.   Medical Reasons.   I am addicted to Breeze and High speed sailing.   Perth has a "Doctor" that specializes in a cure.

Justin, you will also love Rottnest Island; a small Bermuda at 25% of the price. Lets commit to get you and the others good enough to have a passport and xxxxx to Rotto. You will love Voyager and its wines. I might come down there with you; my favourite winery in the south west. And look up the Berry Farm. See you soon.
