This past weekend at Pass Christian Yacht Club in Mississippi, the Gulf Yachting Association celebrated the Flying Scot boat and recognized how the Scot had served as an exceptional racing platform for the GYA's Capdevielle interclub series for five decades. Starting next year, the Viper 640 will become the GYA's Capdevielle boat.

During the Flag Raising Ceremony at the the opening of the GYA's semi-annual meeting, Former GYA Commodore and GYA/Viper liaison Cathy Cromartie (Fairhope Yacht Club) read to the assembly a Proclamation from the International Viper 640 Class Association recognizing the tremendous contribution the Scot had made to generations of GYA sailors...promising to uphold the high ideals and standards that the Viper inherits.  The full language of the Proclamation is as follows:

PROCLAMATION

The International Board of Directors and the Members of the International Viper 640 Class Association hereby recognize the contribution of the Flying Scot Sailing Association
who, for the past fifty years, has exceeded the expectations of the Gulf Yachting Association.
by providing a competitive and able yacht design upon which GYA member clubs have been able to compete for the Auguste B. Capdevielle Memorial Trophy.

The Flying Scot served the GYA exceedingly well, decade after decade, as its Capdevielle platform and also as the boat on which generations of GYA sailors learned to sail.

It is with full acknowledgment and appreciation of the long-standing contribution the Flying Scot Sailing Association made to the GYA that the International Viper 640 Class Association is honored to become the GYA's Capdevielle Championship boat effective January 2018.

In doing so, the International Viper 640 community recognizes that the Flying Scot Sailing Association set an extremely high standard of performance and service. We will endeavor to maintain those high standards as we look forward to racing in future Capdevielle Championships and sharing with sailors, young and old, our passion for the sport we love.

Proclaimed on this Second Day of September, 2017.
