2013 American YC Independence Day Regatta
« on: June 07, 2013, 04:51:19 PM »
Racing July 6-7, counts toward the WLIS fleet championship, NOR attached.  $25 entry fee, which basically covers AYC admin costs and separate trophies (which last year were nice crystal bowls).  If anyone wants to store and launch out of LYC for the regatta, email me to let me know and we can probably arrange that for the weekend.  Despite what it says in the NOR, if there are enough Western CT area Vipers who are planning to sail over each day, the start line WILL be moved to the east to be south of R38 instead of south of R42 -- we'll get a better headcount for that the week of the event though (it'll also be based on how many Etchells and Shields from the Greenwich area decide to come over).

Anyhow, the two new Larchmont Vipers should be rigged and ready by then, so figure on 9-12 Larchmont Vipers being on the line at minimum (there's no way we'll get all 13 -- it just never works out that way, esp. around a holiday weekend).  Last year this was a good event with 6 races in really nice conditions.

Great weekend of Viper racing on WLIS - 12 boats, 6 races, decent conditions both days.  The two newest LYC Vipers (#s 205 and 206) made their racing debuts, with Danny Pletsch and Cardwell Potts winning the regatta in 205, and Nic Buc taking 206 for a spin with guest driver Brendan McAndrews.  There was a bit of a logjam in the standings in 2nd through 5th and then from 6th to 9th thanks to some tight racing and random diggers thrown in due to skewed courses Saturday and a breakdown on 161 on Sunday (we will be replacing the ring dings that hold the shrouds to the chainplates with split pins going forward).   Special thanks to Richard West and Team Levy for traveling in from Western CT (with Team Levy towing over by water both days - easy trip from Greenwich!), with Richard showing some great speed on Saturday to end the day with a 2, 3, and Team Levy making their racing debut in # 180, and ending with a strong third in Sunday's final race.  Also huge thanks to Team RedRhumb for loaning hull 95 to Wild Hogs, and Team Tomoka for loaning 177 to Dave Coughlin from UK Sails so that the UK Viper Prototypes could get another day on the racecourse.  Complete results and recap below.

Updated WLIS Viper championship standings attached.  You need to sail 50% of the races to qualify, and for the boats in CT, there are a bunch of opportunities to do that if you make it to all the regattas.  We now have 29 Vipers in WLIS, 24 of whom have sailed at least 20% of the races in 2013, and 18 of whom have done at least 40% of the races, which is fantastic.  Only 5 have yet to see the water at all in 2013 for local racing, and at least one of those boats (Argo Jr.) will be out for LYC Race Week, and a second of which is waiting to be built (congratulations to new owner Warren Costikyan of Noroton YC for buying Viper 213).

Everyone who participates needs to be a YRALIS member in order to be eligible for season-end trophies, and this requirement is there for participation in various other regattas, like YRALIS Champs.  Join the YRALIS today: http://www.yralis.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=555474&module_id=87581

Upcoming local regattas:
July 20-21: Larchmont Race Week - 18 Vipers already signed up, a 19th to sign up later today (Team Broszkowki from Nyack), who will be # 20?  http://www.yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=832
